thanks @Caookies for these info. Do you happen to know if the $20,000 financial aid you are mentioning are per year or for the 2 years in Columbia GS program?
I would assume it’s per year(?) It would be quite surprising otherwise.
20k is during the last two years. Last two yrs are handled by France.
Do you need to submit your predicted IB score to them? It doesn’t mention anything on the actual application, but since they do have the recommended score does that mean they want them?
I don’t think they require it, but if you think it’d help you, you could probably submit it. Not sure tho.
@GSTourGuides I have submitted the application but have not yet received the link for essays and Family info. Will I get the link in an email or should I log back into the portal? Can you please clarify?
Please ignore my question. The portal allows you to connect.
If you have predicted IB scores, you do need to submit them. That is typically done by your school when they submit your transcript.
@psekhon55 Glad everything is working for you now!
Best of luck and please reach out if you have any more questions as the application cycle winds to a close.
@GSTourGuides If I’m an IB student, but my school has a strict policy not to predict our scores, I don’t need to submit them right?
@Caookies Correct! You only need to submit them if you have them.
Hi everyone! I’m applying to the Reims campus and I have a question regarding recommendations. Currently, I have recommendations from my teacher and a former employer (from my internship at the House of Representatives).I originally read on the SciencesPo website that you need a recommendation from a teacher and a professional and assumed a recommendation from my internship would be okay. But upon checking the Columbia website, they only mention recommendations from teachers or guidance counselors. Does anyone know if the recommendations HAVE to be from both a teacher and a guidance counselor or would my two current recommendations be fine?
Hi @justjuliaa
I believe that the two recommendations should come from two teachers or a teacher and a guidance counselor because the admissions officers who read applications are primarily concerned with your contributions to a classroom environment.
Unfortunately, the School of General Studies (which hosts the Dual BA and manages the online application portal) is closed at least through Wednesday for the holiday. You should be able to call their office on or after Wednesday, though, to speak to someone about your situation and see if you would be able to substitute one of your letters. The office can be reached at (212) 854-2772.
Best of luck and happy holidays, everyone!
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know how many students applied last year and how many got in?(2018 stats)
Hi @LelePonce
Typically, 400-500 students apply to the program, about a third of whom are offered an interview. About 100 of those interviewed are offered admission, with 70-80 ultimately enrolling. It is important to keep in mind that while this seems to be a higher acceptance rate than Columbia College, the Dual BA application is off the Common App, so it attracts exceptionally motivated students willing to put in the time to complete an additional application and two long essays. The program also appeals a unique, globally minded, highly qualified, and self-selective group of students passionate about a transatlantic education, so the quality of applicants considered is very high and Dual BA admission remains quite competitive. All accepted students successfully completed a joint interview with Columbia and SciencesPo administrators–a key difference from the CC application process–and the Dual BA is the first choice of many students who apply, which is why yield rates are often over 75%. Columbia’s last two Rhodes Scholars were both Dual BA students, so this unique application process continues to identify very promising and adventurous students.
Good luck to everyone completing applications for January 2 submission and please continue to post your questions!
@GSTourGuides Hi, while I was looking at the application, I saw that I could submit my official transcript through an email from someone at school. I was wondering if I could have my guidance counselor email it, instead of physically mailing one in?
That is fine! Please have your counselor send your official transcript as a PDF to spo-dualba@columbia.edu with your full name in the body of the email.
Hi! I have recently submitted my application and had a few questions on the financial aid app. If I have already submitted the FAFSA do I still need to write the essay in order to submit this financial aid form also? I know it says it’s optional, but I wasn’t sure if that meant it was actually optional. Thanks ahead of time
Hi I’m a current HS junior and I heard about the Sciences Po Columbia Dual BA program in August. I’m really interested in applying next year and want to know the acceptance rate for the Menton campus. I really love Menton and want to further get involved with Middle Eastern/Mediterranean affairs. Also, what are they looking for in the students? What if my school does not offer IB courses but they offer AP courses and I took them? Thank you:)
Hi everyone,
@ktgall Are you referring to the Columbia or SciencesPo aid application? If you could share a bit more information about what essay you are referring to, I will do my best to help answer your question.
@sunflowers10 Acceptance rates by campus are not published, but even if they were, they would not be particularly useful as the amount of students going to each campus each year varies. The Dual BA admits the most qualified applicants to the program as a whole and considers their reasons for applying to a certain campus when placing them.
In addition to an excellent academic record, admissions officers are looking for students with a bit of a “spark.” They want students with a passion for a topic, with a desire to make a difference, with the adaptability to find a home in two very different environments, and with an adventurous spirit to see the world and meet young people from all corners of the globe.
You will not be penalized in the admissions process for courses that your school does not offer. The Dual BA has students from all over the world and from all sorts of school systems–public, private, big, small, International, American, French, British, German, Chinese, and so many more–so admissions is very well aware of the different contexts from which applicants hail. For reference, I took AP courses, not IB, in high school!
Happy New Year and best of luck to everyone!
Yes of course! I’m talking about the ‘Sciences Po Dual BA Program Application for Financial Aid’. The essay is at the bottom of that page and it’s an optional ‘Brief Statement’ for letting the ‘Scholarship Committee’ know anything we think would be relevant. However, my situation does not necessarily apply to any of the examples there are for relevant information. Thus, I was confused and not sure if this was an essay or scholarship meant for me. I hope this helps you out a bit more than my last quite vague post haha. Thanks again
