Columbia Sciences Po Fall 2019 Entry

@GSTourGuides Can we submit our application even if one of the recommenders have not submitted the recommendation?

@GSTourGuides Thank you so much! Out of curiosity, how many AP classes did you take throughout high school?

Hi, may I ask why there is a required financial aid form on my portal after submission, even though I remembered I indicated I do not apply for FA? I’m not sure if I remember correctly. Thank you.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Many of these questions are specific to your individual application portals, so I would recommend submitting your applications and all supporting documentation as soon as possible. Call the School of General Studies and ask for admissions when the office reopens tomorrow morning (deadline is not until tomorrow night) if you receive a message that there is an outstanding document. Their phone number is +1 212 854 2772.

@sunflowers10 Since Dual BA students come from so many different academic backgrounds around the world, I can assure you there is no magic number of AP classes to take. The admissions officers are being entirely honest when they say your academic record is evaluated in the context of your school and that your story and adventurous spirit are of equal, if not greater, importance in admissions considerations. The review process is very, very holistic because in addition to making sure that you can handle the workload of two prominent universities, they want to make sure you can handle and embrace living in two unique cultural environments. I would not want to confuse my high school courseload for a guaranteed threshold for admission, because that is just one piece of the application. Some students took entirely AP, IB, or equivalent courses in their home country and others went to school without such options and still managed to assemble a challenging courseload that piqued their interest.

Good luck with the final touches to your applications!

@GSTourGuides My guidance counselor has not been responding to my emails, so I was wondering if my application would be considered incomplete if she mailed it in after Jan. 2? Or if my recommendation arrived at the admissions office on Jan 3?

Hi @justjuliaa

That is not a promise that I have the authority to make, so please give the office a call tomorrow when they reopen. Their number is +1 212 854 2772. However, if it’s just the recommendation in the mail that you are concerned about, I imagine it would be fine–the admissions team is very understanding and really looks forward to reading as many applications as possible!

In any case, make sure your online application has been electronically submitted on time.

Best of luck!

@GSTourGuides Thank you so much for your help!

Hi is there anyone meeting the same problem as me? There is a required financial aid form on my portal after submission, even though I remembered I indicated I do not apply for FA? I’m not sure if I remember correctly though…@GSTourGuides may I ask if you know why is this the case?

Hey everyone! I am an applicant from New Hampshire and I have loved the Dual BA program since my sophomore year. I visited Columbia over the summer and I fell in love. I applied to the Reims campus and hope to concentrate in political science. Good luck to everyone applying!

Hi,
I submitted my application recently and paid the fees but wasn’t sure where to submit the essays? Do I add them under the “Upload Materials” section below the checklist under “GS-optional essay” or am I mistaken and should they be submitted somewhere else?

app is due at midnight EST in case anyone was wondering

Hi everyone,

Good luck with finishing up your applications! Be proud of your work—completing this application is no small feat.

@vickyxx If you indicated that you are not applying for financial aid and have confirmed that you submitted your application, don’t worry about that form.

@exper5 Are you referring to the Dual BA application or a General Studies application for regular admission (i.e. going directly to Columbia rather than first spending two years at SciencesPo)? You should not be able to submit a Dual BA application without the two required essays, which differ from what is required for a regular application.

@GSTourGuides I’m having the same issue regarding the essays

Hi @MetonHopeful2023

As a current student without access to the back-end of the admissions portal, I unfortunately am not sure and the office is not currently open for me to check with them. I would suggest putting them in the “Uploads” section as you said!

Good luck!

Hello! Just found this very helpful thread @GSTourGuides

Do you think doing econ at Sciences Po and computer science at Columbia?

Do you know anybody who chose a major at columbia that was unrelated to social sciences?

@prospie2023

When I went to orientation for accepted students with my daughter last year in the spring we met a very impressive young man. He was going the social science route at Science Po but then switches completely while he was at Columbia. He started computer science, taught himself programming and ended up with a job offer from a hedge fund. And he finished a semester early…and he composed music. He was also very humble. I can probably find out his name.

I was completely in awe of his accomplishments and I respect his hard work. (Hope that is not weird, since I am a mom ;-)) It made us realize that every door is open to the students of this program…

@GSTourGuides I don’t think my transcript has my predicted score on it, but I can have my teachers fill out a form to get it. Is this worth doing?

Hi @prospie2023 and @interestedtraveler7

There are lots of students who complete non-social science majors at Columbia! We have students pursuing majors in English, Comparative Literature, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, and even Neuroscience. While most students do stay in the social sciences, this is not a requirement. Any major offered by the School of General Studies is possible. It is important to consider, however, that this program is specifically geared towards students interested in the social sciences. If you are interested in pursuing the pre-med track, please keep in mind that you would likely have to extend your stay at Columbia beyond two years. If this is the case, I encourage to reach out directly to the admissions team.

If your school typically provides predicted scores to colleges, this is something you should have sent to admissions as soon as possible. If they do not typically send these scores but you would like for admissions to consider them, I would suggest calling admissions first thing in the morning to coordinate sending your scores as the deadline has passed and applications will begin to be reviewed shortly.

Hope that helps and please continue to post your questions!

Hi! Sorry to bother you! My school’s 1st semester grade has not gone out yet. Is it too late to submit it?
