whats the avg ib score for the program?
Hi @Samual0329 and @gutjop
Please no apologies–you’re not a bother at all! You can’t control when your school releases your grades, so just ensure that once they are available, they are sent. For reference, when I applied, my first semester ended in the middle of January and my grades were not sent until around the beginning of February.
Most students in the program who complete an IB degree have at or above around a 40, but this is not a hard threshold. The program very much values and emphasizes fit over any specific score, so having above a 40 will not guarantee admission nor will having below a 40 automatically discount your application.
Hope that helps!
@GSTourGuides Is admission need-blind or need-aware?
A school’s being need-aware or need-blind should be irrelevant to domestic applicants. It doesn’t affect how much you like a school, nor how much aid you will get. It affects only the chance of admission, and then often only after the aid budget is depleted (for schools being need-blind up to that point).
@GSTourGuides Is it unconditional if you are accepted? Also, when can we expect a response regarding admissibility?
Hi do I have to send in mid year reports for 1st semester of senior year? Can I send in updated predicted scores if I did the IB? Are both/either one of these required or are they optional? Thanks!
Hi @GSTourGuides, thanks for answering the many questions that we have. I was wondering if I could ask about first semester grades. Currently, sending them would pose a financial hardship (as our school requires us to pay a large amount of money for them to send) and so I emailed the office of admissions for the program and they said that it isn’t required. Do you know if not sending the grades would hurt my application or chances of getting into the program? Second, I was wondering if you knew when the interview dates would be coming out. Thanks so much for answering my questions!
Hi everyone!
@Teeetwoone and @vonlost, the Dual BA is need-blind for all applicants, both domestic and international. This is different from many undergraduate programs. Need is only considered after admission–it will not impact your chances of being admitted.
I’d like to take this moment to remind all applicants that the School of General Studies, in which the Dual BA Program between SciencesPo and Columbia is housed, is not able to meet all demonstrated need. So while your aid will not be evaluated as part of the admissions process, know that no student will be extended an aid package covering the entire cost of attendance. Additionally, there are two separate aid processes–one for the first two years at SciencesPo, and another for the latter two years at Columbia–administered separately by each school.
If you have general questions about financial aid, please feel free to post them here. If your questions pertain to you or your family’s specific situation, I encourage you to contact the School of General Studies’ Office of Educational Financing. You can reach them at (212) 854-5410 or gsfinancialaid@columbia.edu. They also have a page specifically for prospective students that could be useful: https://gs.columbia.edu/prospective-students-financial-aid. SciencesPo has a similar page as well: https://www.sciencespo.fr/en/admissions-financial-aid/fees-financial-aid.
@Teeetwoone, all offers are unconditional.
@exper5, if you are able to send these materials, please do. However, as @ParkJiSung777 wrote, you are not required to do so. If it is possible, I would recommend it, but I promise that the admissions officers reading your applications are quite understanding and do not intend to place any sort of an undue financial burden on you or your families! Extra material may help your application if it is particularly notable (perhaps you excelled beyond your previous academic record on your first semester final exams, for example) but the absence of it will not hurt you.
@ParkJiSung777, all applicants will be emailed as to whether or not they have been offered an interview by February 15. The interviews will take place on Skype or in-person (usually in New York or Paris, but need to confirm about Paris) between February 18 and March 8. There is absolutely no preference for interviewing virtually or in-person–I can’t stress that enough! The in-person option is offered for those local to interview locations but absolutely no preference is given to students who come to campus to interview. I did not interview in-person nor did many of my friends and classmates and we are still happily part of the Dual BA today. Final decisions will be made by April 1.
Great questions–so happy to see that there are so many students excited about the Dual BA!
@GSTourGuides Wow! It sounds like students really are taking advantage of what the two schools have to offer. Now I’m even more excited :)) Econ at Sci Po and comp sci at Columbia is exactly what I want to do, so that’s amazing to hear @Parentalhelp
Thank you both for your replies!
When are the interview notifications being released? Does anyone have a clue?
@GSTourGuides can we expect a reply before the 15th of February?

@blackhairedgirl do you attend Welham girls?
@blackhairedgirl looks like a great profile btw. best of luck!
*/Mayo lol
the website says that we should be contacted by feb 15 about interviews
@interestedtraveler7 I emailed them and they said the same so, yeah, less than 7 days left!
@blackhairedgirl Last year my daughter was invited to interview a few days before 2/15/2018. Around the 9th or 10th of February. If I remember correctly it was a Friday evening, EST.
On the 2018 College Confidential people began posting that they received (or did not receive) an interview invitation on Feb 9, 2018. Last year Feb 9 was on a Friday. So my guess is that today is the day they will start to notify applicants. Good luck everyone!
