Columbia Transfer Fall 2020 WAITLIST

@ps3809 i doubt there’s a set schedule for waitlist notifications, especially with COVID this year

Does anyone know/have a ball-park estimate of how many people are on the transfer waitlist?

@jamesonion 100? I have no idea honestly. The thread isn’t crazy busy, but who knows since most applicants probably don’t check CC.

This thread is pretty dead

@nickvader7 Lol well there’s nothing else to do except wait :frowning: Hopefully someone will let us know if they heard back first

Still nothing yet? Maybe this fri?

I hope we find out either this week or next week

Is anyone able to call the admissions office? I’ve tried calling the main number and it just talks about COVID and that’s it. It doesn’t bring you to an actual person to talk to

I gave them a call today and I was able to talk to an actual person

Did they give you any indication of when/if they would be taking Transfers off the WL?

@transfer202000 what did they say?

It was really vague info because the calls are been recorded. But basically they think they may look at the waitlist more because this is a “different cycle” and they didn’t specify when we will hear back. The person who picked up the phone works in admissions but not inside of the committee so they don’t know for sure.

@transfer202000 did they say if there are a lot of people on waitlist?

The Columbia Spectator reported on Twitter last night that “The Morningside Heights Community Coalition asked to see a plan for how Columbia and Barnard will address reopening and the dangers that come with it. The coalition urged the University to consider the health of not only students but also the on-campus workers, elderly, and low-income residents of the public housing complexes nearby.”

I tried to post the link, but it was flagged for moderation.

@nickvader7 I tried to ask them but they couldn’t tell me. It was worth a shot though

@havingfunismy meaning they might accept more?

@nickvader7 Obviously, I am hoping that Columbia will accept more Transfers off the WL this year.

If you exclude Freshman, approximately 4,650 students attend Columbia Undergrad. If 5% of current Columbia students decide that the Fall 2020 conditions are unsafe/unfavorable/unpleasant and decide not to return this fall, that’s about 230 openings.

But, these are just guesses —And, the Covid19 crisis is evolving every day—No one knows the exact timing of the end of the First Wave of infections, much less the timing of the forecasted Second Wave. However, this is out of our control (we hope for the best, plan for the worst).

The big questions are:

  1. How many students are currently on the Columbia transfer WL?
  2. If Columbia is “online-only” this Fall, how many current students will defer?
  3. Would an “online-only” semester allow Columbia to accept “more” students?

Does anyone’s portal look a little different? My option to upload was there earlier this week but is no longer there today.

@hiccppl Yeah you’re right! I checked my portal earlier today actually and there used to be a message saying that supplementary statements are due May 27, but now it’s gone

Same here but idk if that means we are gonna hear back soon
