I’m confused about college curriculum report and transfer report. Do you guys know what that are?
Question: should you put the reason why you want to transfer INSIDE your essay, or leave that for the supplements only?
Wait Nevermind I see a “Personal Statement” where we explain.
@alfredm
If you go to conllege confidential’s general site (or google it) you should be able to print out a curriculum report and then have all your proffessors sign it and put your grade.
Does Columbia accept any junior transfers? They mentioned they do, but I don’t know how likely
Guys I’m confused do we need the Coalition essay or not? It says on the website it’s not required but I don’t want to seem like I just didn’t do it because I didn’t want to.
@kcasssuu Are you currently a junior wanting to transfer as a senior? If so then your chances of getting in are very low, and if you did and decided to go there, you would have to stay 2 years regardless of you only having to complete one year. If you are a sophomore right now and will be junior next year, then I definitely encourage you to apply.
@djkffjjjds I think they just need the typical transfer personal statement which is
“The personal statement helps colleges get to know you better as a person and a student. Please provide a statement discussing your educational path. How does continuing your education at a new institution help you achieve your future goals”
Hi guys, glad to find the thread! Just being confused about choosing major on Coalition App. There are three required blanks need to be filled, can I just choose the same major for all the three?
By the way, is anyone applying as Gender Studies major? lol
Hi guys, I am currently a sophomore also applying to transfer to Columbia for the 2020 Fall Semester. For reference, I’m going to post a summary about myself because I think this will be helpful for future applicants. I went to a public high school and did not do too well academically:
GPA: 3.8~ (weighted)
SAT: 1380
750 Math / 630 English
Letters of Recommendations: I think the recs were pretty good, especially from my counselor.
Extracurriculars/Extras:
Varsity Track and Field Captain (recruited to a variety of AA Division I schools like BostonU, Lehigh, Lafayette, etc)
President of the Asian Student Association (I am an Asian Male)
Volunteer in church orchestra
Worked as a Teachers Assistant for a standardized prep course (I didn’t teach obviously)
…and a variety of other activities. I think being an athlete definitely helped me the most out of all my extracurriculars as it basically gave me a chance at schools that I was not qualified for statistically.
Now, I go to NYU (NCAA DIII), but I was not recruited. I received a spot off the wait-list and I am very grateful that NYU gave me a chance.
GPA: 3.942
SAT: 1380
Letters of Recommendations: Both of my professors knew me pretty well
Extracurriculars/Extras:
Varsity Track and Field member
Dean’s Global Honors Program
Honors Seminar (all expenses covered trip to France, covered by the school)
Dean’s List
Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee Honor Roll
Volunteering at Organizations related to hunger
I am not sure what my chances are like as it seems like a lot of really competitive applicants on College Confidential in past years were rejected/waitlisted. Nevertheless, as a fellow applicant, I wish all of you guys the best of luck
I’m confused, do we write the personal essay or not? And should we fill out the high school coursework section?
@charlipearl I have been really confused about this as well. I know it says the Coalition Essay is optional, but I’m curious to know if it is ACTUALLY optional in the sense that they prefer if do it. Does increase chances of admission if I do it or should I not waste my time? Any current transfers know what we should do?
@charlipearl I’m also really confused about the high school coursework part too lol
They said explicitly on their transfer application requirement:
"The following Profile sections are not required for a complete transfer application to Columbia: 9th-11th Grade Coursework, 12th Grade Coursework, and Coalition Essay.
We encourage transfer applicants to list all college coursework on their application, including current coursework, but discourage students from listing high school coursework. "
So I guess no need to write Coalition Essay/fill in high school coursework, just the transfer personal statement.
Hey! I’m also applying to Columbia for fall 2020 as a freshman and I’m applying to Barnard and NYU as well.
@childishlandino see above comment, forgot to tag you ^^
I’m applying to Columbia for fall 2020 as an English and Economics major. I’m currently a freshman at a top 15 ranked school. My GPA is a 3.86 and I’m scared because I know a lot of transfers will have very high GPAs. I don’t think Columbia takes the 2020 spring semester into consideration since it’s still in progress, but I’m doing a lot better this semester. Now I’m not sure if I should’ve just applied as a spring 2021 transfer instead especially since my high school GPA and SAT were nothing special…
@westvillagelover hey I’m applying to NYU as well! What current school do you go to?
@westvillagelover hey, I don’t think you should worry too much. While GPA is important, I am pretty sure they take into account of various other factors. Also, you could apply next year as well!
@westvillagelover Don’t be so down on yourself! My GPA is currently a 3.88 at my current institution (community college). I transferred from Dartmouth College with a 1.79. I am sure admission officers are going to pass out from my college GPA. xD Do your best and keep improving! Wishing you luck!
