@heyigotnoclue Based off this year’s freshman applications (which were due before the Corona pandemic) it seems that many elite schools’ waitlist and acceptance rates are up (example, UPenn). It seems that the current financial situation is pushing students towards in-state public or private schools as they are cheaper and/or closer to home. I am not sure what is happening on the international front although it may be a similar case due to the lack of aid available for international students. Thus I suspect this increase in acceptances and waitlists may be colleges’ way of ensuring they can fill their incoming classes but not over enroll. Regardless of the reason, I certainly hope Columbia’s transfer acceptances for this year will increase!
Since we can now self-report midterm grades bc of COVID, do we just fill out the curriculum report and leave the comments and signature spaces empty and upload to the portal?
How are you all self reporting? Just a really rough estimate/ screenshots/ checking in with your professors to see what your mid term grades are? Some of my classes haven’t had any graded assignments yet for this semester…
I did not know we were supposed to self report mid term grades? I though they were waived.
For classes without any grades possible yet, you could just list them and write “In progress” or “N/A” for the grade part
i was told to submit my midterm grades with no signature. apparenlty this year, its not a big deal since covid-19 <---- thanks so much
the biggest issue for all of us transfers is possibility of fall 2020 being online. imma be so sad
@heyigotnoclue I was never told this. Did they send an email?
@jazziscool - OH lol forgot to mention that it was for my situation SPECFICIALLY sorry about that
@heyigotnoclue ohhh ok cool I got worried for a sec
Does anyone know if we’ll have an alumni interview?
@jasonyfgong I belive Columbia doesn’t offer interviews for transfer applicants.
Is anyone hesitant on opting to make a course pass/fail this semester? My grades in two classes have slipped with moving to online education and I’m unsure whether or not I should keep the letter grade (assuming it will be a B/B+) or switch to S/U. When I emailed the admissions office they said they preferred letter grades but I’m unsure whether retaining letter grades will hinder me more than help.
has anyone figured out how to self-report their midterm grades yet?
I heard that because of Covid-19 you should be able to fill out the midterm report on the transfer page yourself, without professor’s signature, and submit it on your portal.
Where is the option to do that? I don’t see it.
@jazziscool Hey, log into your application portal and go to the drop down arrow below “Update Your Application” and then go to “Upload Curriculum Report” and press “form” (its underlined and colored in blue)
@jk6321 cook thanks so much man
@jamesonion I was actually thinking about pass/failing as well because my school is letting us pass fail all our courses this semester. I wanted to do this because I didn’t think online classes accurately reflect the type of student you are. However, I elected to stick with letter grades.
I just wanted to give you some input on my situation because it seems like a topic that is not talked about much. If you are planning on going to graduate school such as law school, I don’t think they like to see more than 2-3 pass fails throughout the course of your college career. Within those classes that you pass/fail, it’s not a good idea to pass/fail a major class (ie: chemistry for pre-med students).
From my understanding (definitely research for your own circumstance), the only thing I would be cautious about is the fact that most classes that students do pass/fail are classes that they can not receive at least a “B” in. Due to this, I think colleges might see the pass fail and think something went horribly wrong which may not be good. This Corona Virus is definitely a pain, but I wish you the best of luck in your classes.
