COLUMBIA TRANSFER: Fall 2020

Hi guys, I am an international applicant from an area that is greatly affected by the coronavirus outbreak. My high school transcripts are not available cuz schools are closed down right now. Does anyone in the same situation as me lol? I emailed the AOs but they said that they will require my transcripts to start the process of my application which frustrated me a lot

Hi! I’m in the same situation. I called every school I’m applying to and most of them said they’re not going to punish me for that, but they do require an official transcript at the end. Columbia’s email response is that in this interim I can send the unofficial transcript I have, but if I’m admitted and wish to enroll then I must provide the official one. I’m pretty sure the school is gonna reopen before May, so I guess it should be fine. But I’m definitely also worried and totally understand your feeling!!

Do any of you guys know where can we check a checklist of our application materials?

@please123ok123
ā€œYou may check your status online from March 11, 2020 through April 29, 2020.ā€

i submitted my app pretty late last night (deadline was extended to mar. 9). how long did it take before you guys got your portal? i still haven’t received mine yet

@azurepurple

It took a day this time but before when I applied it took a couple of days. It all depends on the number of applications they have to process.

@azurepurple I applied on March 1 and got mine 6 days later!

Does anyone know if the school closure will have an impact on our decision notification date?

@childishlandino

It might affect how quick they process the documents but probably not the notification date, most schools have decisions done weeks before.

Does anyone know that is the midterm report optional for first-year students? Did pretty poor on the midterm, I would like to not submit if it’s not required

@sadgjhkdsh Pretty sure it is required for all students. However, since a lot of schools are closing I am not sure what they are going to do because it requires the professor to sign the papers. I have a feeling, although I may be wrong, that they will ask us to send our midterm reports electronically.

@jk6321 I’m scanning the file to my professors for them to sign it, and ask them to scan it back to me. This might take a while since you have to wait until one professor to sign before sending to the next one, but that’s how I’m doing it now in case Columbia requests it.

@transferr2020 sounds like a great idea. I just want to wait and see what Columbia wants so I don’t have to bother my professors too much.

Does anyone think that they might not open for fall semester of 2020? What would that mean for us? NYC public health basically said that " city could be hurt until at least late fall"…

Current student here. As of right now, Columbia has not announced its plans for fall 2020 but it is assumed classes will resume as normal.

I honestly don’t think they’llstay closed till fall. The virus should be constrained by summer (not saying that bc im hopeful moreso bc countries have found solutions to suppress the spread of virus and hopefully America will implement the same methods). NYC is a dangerous spot for pandemics though, so I guess we can’t be 100% sure. Also there are rumors the Bill de Blasio (nyc mayor) is shutting down the city and putting it on lockdown, that would be pretty helpful in making sure the virus doesn’t spread to more people. But again,it’s unpredictable

hey guys! im not sure if this is true but there is a rumor going around that said basically because of the COVID-19, there may be a decrease in international students which may free up some spots for domestic students…

can someone verify that because someone pinged it to me

man that would be awesome

Anyone know if it’s too late to apply for financial aid. The website said it was due March 1st, but the application deadline was extended all the way to March 30th… so

apply asap! they will still accept it!
