COLUMBIA TRANSFER: Fall 2020

Hi there, has anyone submitted a Coalition Essay, by any chance? I know it’s optional, but I’m doing it anyway. I can’t find any info as to whether we’re required to put line breaks in between paragraphs because obviously there isn’t an option to indent. :frowning: Anyone else submitting the Coalition Essay?

@transferr2020 It’s due March 1 as far as I know!

Did anyone receive an email link to the confirmation of their application from Columbia yet??? I still havent but i have from other colleges

I haven’t received it either and already received from other colleges. I’m assuming they have a lot of applicants so we’ll just have to wait.

I haven’t received it. What I am more worried about is the fact that I didn’t do the CSS profile yet. Apparently, the deadline for financial aid stuff was also March 1. I filled out the FAFSA, but not the CSS profile. What should I do? Should I even bother with the CSS, because it does cost money to submit.

I haven’t received it either!

I have a question: when I generated a pdf of the college app before I submitted, I saw all the line breaks in my 300-word answers, but when I click on the “view submission” button and view the answers, they’re all kinda chunked up into one giant paragraph. :frowning: Is this happening to anyone else? Which of them represents how the admissions officers actually view our app?

Have you guys received the online portal checklist yet?

@rielele I submitted mine three days ago but haven’t got anything yet

Hey guys, I was worried too but it takes some time for them to get back to you. I got mine about a week after I submitted. Don’t worry too much!

Yep. I think they are processing the docs

Does anyone familiar with the Australian university system? If I transfer from Australia, will I have a disadvantage? BTW the GPA inflation in the States is crazy…

I signed up for the SAT before the late registration deadline, but the transaction did not go through. I’m LIVID. It seems like going on a waitlist for the SAT is not an option for students over 21. Is it a terrible idea to send them a note explaining the situation and take the May SAT, or would it mean an automatic rejection? I’m so frustrated!

I can’t seem to find the checklist on the applicant portal? Anyone else having this issue? If not, how do I get to it?

@jazziscool we won’t have access to it untill mid march

@teenybee if you’re re-taking the SAT for a better score, than I wouldn’t stress it too much. The whole point of SATs and APs is to indicate college performance so since you’re already in college those scores don’t carry as much weight.

@LapisLazumarril Hi there, I do have old scores from like 5-6 years ago but I don’t feel that they represent my current level of reading comprehension and writing… :frowning: They’re unimpressive, to say the least. I was confident I’d do well this time, but oh well. I’m guessing I’ll call CB just in case! Thanks!!

@teenybee I personally found the ACT to be easier and the late registration for the April exam is still open. Perhaps switching the test would be a better option. I found if you are well prepared to score well on the SAT, you should be able to do quite well on the ACT. I am not sure if Columbia will take that, but I think it might be your best option.

@brightplaces Thank you so much! Yeah, I was thinking of taking the ACT, but also self-reporting my old scores to prevent my application from being just thrown out without being reviewed. Would a low score from 2014 really hurt my chances? :frowning: I have 39 credits in total with all As and 16 more units currently in progress.

I’m not an admissions person (evidently as I am also applying), however, I have previously heard that these scores are generally meant to be predictors of a freshman college transcript (high scores equaling mostly As, etc.). As you have completed that with As I do not think it should put you at an advantage. However, I am also just a human trying to transfer…so take it with a grain of salt. Regardless, Good Luck!!!

@brightplaces That really helps. Thanks!!! I’ve signed up for the ACT and am planning on updating them with new scores as soon as they come out, so hopefully it will all work out… Good luck to you as well!!
