Just read about Stanford rejecting two people with perfect GPAs and Perfect ACT/SAT scores… jeez
@stressedibstudent my interview was on the very last day of interviews bc I had to reschedule (yikes) but mine was an alumna of the 90s
@bagelboy that’s not too surprising tbh. they might have only had good stats and nothing else. colleges do want people with good test scores, but they want those people to have some substance too. only having good scores won’t help you get into an ivy or similar schools (for better or for worse depending on what your stance is)
@1984ad I know, it’s just strange to me that someone can score that highly but not have any “substance” in terms of college applications
Though its not my intention to flare up the anxiety in here but did anyone else see a message about ‘Regular Decision applicaion…’ on their portal now?
thanks for responding! @wilddaisyy @bagelboy @1984ad @grusminion @mxrxsxa
i got an interview too and i live in san francisco – i was just wondering if the interview does actually have a big impact on our decision if it went really well? or not?
@bagelboy what instrument does he play? What sport does she excellent at? How many volunteer hours were committed? Does he/she work well with others? The admissions folks all but shout it from the the rooftops…numbers are not everything.
@bagelboy you would be surprised! some kids are pushed by their parents to only pursue high grades and scores and they only realize that they need other things for their application to be more complete way too late in the process. i’ve read stories of kids only finding out in senior year that their 35 ACT isn’t enough to get them into harvard and that they actually need to do other things and write well at the same time. that’s another issue that the perfect scorers might have had: essays. sometimes people write mediocre/boring essays, and sometimes the essays are awful. they might have had either of those if their essays weren’t up to par with the college’s standards. at the end of the day though we’ll just never know what led to their rejection unfortunately
@stressedibstudent the interview has very very very little impact. tbh, it’s mostly a way to engage the alumni from the school and possibly increase their donations
@bunjojo welcome! the only thing i see about RD in my portal is this:
“The Regular Decision deadline to submit financial aid materials is February 15, 2018, and online financial aid document tracking will be available through mid-March.”
portals are the same for all applicants, so i wouldnt worry about it
@1984ad phew i thought it was a sign of deferral
wish everyone the best of luck!
@bunjojo haha there are no “signs” of anything, luckily
we’ll all find out at the same time on thursday!
5 and a half more days. I can’t get this out of my head. I was at a school dance yday and mid was it turns exactly 7pm and im just there thinking exactly 6 more days. The stress is eatting me up inside.
my class has like 575 - 600 people and my school has at least 2300 students.
and i had my interview with an alum from the late 70’s in person in Princeton (can’t get over the irony) i’m from central Jersey
I have my winter formal tonight and I’m just trying to forget that results come out in five days because the wait is just killing me!
@stressedibstudent I live in Boston and I got an interview on the 27th (late because my interview request kept going to my spam box but luckily I discovered it in time) and it was really chill because she just graduated.
@stressedibstudent also the interview doesn’t have a large impact at all on your decision (I know an interviewer from the CT area and he said only 40% of applicants get interviewed and it’s mainly based on location)
First snow today in DC area. Hope everyone is enjoying the day.
Oh hey, I live in the Boston area too @slytherinballet my interviewer graduated from Columbia in the early 90s.
I got the email that notified us of the December 14th 7:00 PM EST results, but I read the subject line, “Your Columbia application” during my AP Gov class and flipped out, thinking I got rejected. Looks like there’s still a chance, haha? Everything is intensifying…
@nickyflash Hang in there.
(general question) what’re your plans to open the letter???
i will check at home; my parent already said “I don’t care if you are accepted or rejected; I still trust you” but I am still bit worried :\
