If results were to be release on the 11th, we would already have them by now…
Anyhow, 3 days to go!
just reread my supplements and im really proud of what i’ve done and how far i’ve come. i hope the feeling is mutual for all of you beautiful people
@1984ad yeah even though Columbia is definitely my first choice I feel like I would be happy at NYU as well (if only it didn’t cost 1.76 million a year)
Idk if this is a little late but…
I believe Columbia WILL accept me on thursday because of my well-written personal statement, my strong gpa and test scores, the rigor of my course work, my dedication to my ec’s and the leadership positions I have held in them, my amazing letters of rec, my demonstrated interest in both the school and the major I have applied to, and my personality which I believe was effectively demonstrated throughout my essays.
If Columbia chooses to not accept me, it just simply means the universe has another plan for me. I’ve been accepted to two other colleges now so I know I’ll end up somewhere getting to study what I love
Do you guys know if demonstrated interest has any impact whatsoever on an application? If it does I’m sure it’s really small, but in my application I have a lot of points of contacts with the school.
I visited NYU and didn’t much care for it. Other than being in NYC, it doesn’t seem to be anything like Columbia. For those of you who have NYU as a second choice…what did I miss? (Copyright TJ via Hamilton)
@surreal22 im sure being somewhat familiar with the school can help a bit (aka researching with professors at the school), but things like summer programs at columbia have just about 0 impact if they cost a lot of money. it honestly depends on what specific thing you’re talking about tbh
@Xplant i just love NYC. my second choice isn’t necessarily supposed to be anything like columbia, of course, so there’s that as well. i liked NYU’s global focus and diverse student body and i really loved their location (which i assume makes for some great internships). i like NYU a lot but theyre really expensive, and i like UChicago too but i doubt i’ll be accepted there next week since i applied EA. it’s almost silly for me to choose a second choice because they would either be too expensive like NYU or foolish to bank on (like my reach schools)
My second choice is NYU and then UPenn.
@Xplant For some like myself, it’s cuz of the major. I’m going for financial economics so NYC is my dream, tho preferably Columbia rather than NYU
@1984ad I visited the school this summer by myself, attended an info session at the school and one at home in L.A., and I have an older family friend who goes to the school who’s told me a lot about it, plus brochures and the website of course. Now that I think about it that doesn’t sound like it’s gonna stand out that much haha.
Also, just to join the conversation, my second choices are Tulane and Brown. They’re all pretty different schools I guess but I like Brown’s vibe and its closeness to cool east coast cities and I really love New Orleans.
@surreal22 yeah they dont count any of that –– so many students do everything you just listed and visiting/attending info sessions are one of the most common things to do nowadays
My second choices are Pomona, North Western and Rice. Sadly a very real chance I won’t get into any but I had an early read on my application at Grinnell through athletics (I’m from Iowa) and they gave me a green light there. I just can’t wait until I know where I’m going. At this point I could get rejected to every other school and just be happy going to my state school as long as I knew!
I saw something over on the harvard thread that I think is pretty cool. What songs would you play after seeing your decision? Which would you play in the case of an acceptance, deferral, and rejection? I haven’t really thought about it but off the top of my head I think it’d go as follows
acceptance: green light - lorde
deferral: tears dry on their own - amy winehouse
rejection: severed crossed fingers - st. vincent / liability (and the magnificent reprise) - lorde
Ahhhhh the classic college acceptance/deferral/rejection playlist question.
In all honesty, I think it would be pretty easy.
Accepted: Darude - Sandstorm
Deffered: Darude - Sandstorm
Rejected: Darude - Sandstorm
The ultimate party song, stress intensifying song, and cry your eyes out song. A true modern masterpiece, move over Beatles, Darude is here.
@bagelboy yours is so similar to mine!
acceptance: green light - lorde
deferral: still sane - lorde
rejection: liability / liability (reprise) - lorde
something like this probably
acceptance: feeling myself - nicki minaj
deferral: joanne -lady gaga/ the louvre - lorde
rejection: six feet under - billie eilish
I accidentally misquoted a notable columbia alumnus as a professor in my why columbia supplement and have a deleted letter in a word in the same line, how screwed am I on a scale of 1-10 I’d say 100000000
This idea is so cool!!!
acceptance: Walking On A Dream - Empire of The Sun
deferral: Losing Sleep - John Newman
rejection: The Sound of Silence - Simon&Garfunkel
Why am I so irrelevant on this thread lmao, good luck to y’all, excited to see all of you get in, you guys seem extremely qualified and hopefully you didn’t make stupid mistakes which get you rejected like i did XD
Oh gosh this took time to think about:
Acceptance- Good as H*ll by Lizzo
Deferral- IDK how I’d feel if I get deferred aaah
Rejection- Hey Jude by the Beatles
2 days and 12 hours! I think counting down relieves my anxiety/heightens it lol. Also, I listened to Green Light for the first time and it seemed like a sad song to me, but I guess I must have to look at the lyrics to round a full opinion.
