if i’m being honest, i really think you need above a 1500 to be “competitive.” i think scores in the 1400s are good too, but definitely not in the same level as the 1500s considering 75% of columbia students have over a 1500
Keep in mind that the process IS highly individual and holistic. Someone from an immigrant, single parent household is not compared to someone from an upper middle class background. They view everything in your context. So yes, most people that go to Columbia have high test scores but only about 50% of Columbia students receive financial aid, implying that the rest are able to pay full tuition and have had access to resources that other students do not. Scores are a very small component of the application for Columbia, especially since they allowed people to self-report this year.
Here’s the link to the financial aid facts and figures: https://cc-seas.financialaid.columbia.edu/eligibility/facts
hey everyone! this is my first post on cc and i’m freaking out aghhhhh decisions come out in 7 hours shwjdnkwjdd
tbh i think i became more stressed/worried after reading everyone’s post (i binged all 77 pages of this thread in 2-3 days) but good luck to everyone!! we will all end up doing amazing things no matter which college we go to
@1984ad where did you find the stat regarding 75% of folks are over 1500. That is contrary to what I’ve seen. I just did a quick check of 3 sites. They each had different numbers. They said 75% had 1420, 1450, and 1470. The one that showed 1420 said its source was Columbia admissions. I didn’t find numbers on the Columbia web site.
Did anyone submit their ACT score? Does anyone know what score would be considered “good enough” for Columbia?
Last year’s stats indicate the middle 50% scored 33-35. I’m submitting my ACT (33).
@biochem0228 i think at least 34, but if the rest of your application is outstanding or something, lower scores might be okay
@biochem0228 mine is 34. I saw a published range of middle 50% of 32-34, maybe 33-35. It has been a while.
I think all these ranges ares dubious anyway. I cannot find stats published on a Columbia web site. One can easily find stats on web sites for companies trying to sell you something to increase your scores. It is in their best interest to artificially inflate the numbers.
I do hope all of you will post after admissions and let us know if you get in it not along with your “numbers.”
guys i’m honesty so wocjlwjxiwnxe anxious i guess?? i just want to know my result right NOW agh i’m too impatient
at this point one of the main reasons i want to be accepted is so i don’t have to do the rest of my applications hahah (i have ~9 left)
I honestly forgot that it was decision day this morning and judged an elementary school’s science fair without terrifying any kids!
Have people got in with an SAT score of 1350 before? or around there? i’m really curious plz tell me. I wonder if someone has that score but has amazing self character and extra curriculars and leadership roles
@MalVeX if you look at previous years ED result thread there are some people accepted with a 1200 S.A.T… Columbia looks at the admission process holistically.
the stats are on columbias 2021 profile. it says their middle 50% of SAT scores go from 1490 to 1580, meaning that the top 25% get over 1580 and the bottom 25% get below 1490. i think these are better indicators of scores than the ACT because the SAT is more specific (a 1470 vs a 1480 is a smaller difference than a 32 and 33 for example)
it’s definitely possible to get in with lower SAT scores, but it’s clear that it’s much more difficult considering that it puts you below the averages and there are lots of other qualified applicants in the pool
it can be compensated for with good ECs, but they have to be very strong. im not trying to put a damper on things (since 25% of the class WILL get in with lower than average scores) but the statistics can definitely be daunting
+1. Having a 25% chance out of the <6% (probably no more than double that for ED) is just a little too precarious of a situation. It’ll be tough for sure, knowing that there are handfuls of people who have WELL over the statistics but still do not get admitted.
hey guys, I’m taylor from the chance me Columbia 2023 thread and I just wanna say good luck to all of you. whatever the decision is, it doesn’t define you or your accomplishments. this process is notoriously known for being unfair and complicated, but no matter what, you guys are still amazing. whatever God has in store for you is amazing!!

I just realized I’m wearing only Columbia colors today :,)
well its probably too late now… but you know freaking out… does Columbia super score act? bc I got a 34 twice but if you take the highest from both, I have a 35
@ggiggles They superscore ACT. Good Luck
I’m wearing all black. I’m basically prepared to attend my own funeral. @mxrxsxa
