I hope to meet all of you tomorrow! :-bd
Hey, what did you guys think?
I’m in neuro (I changed that to my second choice); it seems alright. And the campus as usual is very pretty
Glad I got in!
Hey guys, to the people who have gotten accepted to shp, what did u guys write about in your essays? and how long was your essay?
@artist03 I wrote about how I’m interested in stem for the future and my “accomplishments” in math/science in school and extracurricular-wise…this was an essay I wrote the day of the deadline so don’t sweat it
for anybody who did get in to the program.. what did u all write about in ur entrance essay?
oops sorry didnt mean to post that twice!
thanks! @zenith99 i took the test last year as a freshman and didnt get in, so im gonna try again this year. im just worried that i wont get in this year either. could someone tell me what my chances of getting in are? I have a 91.01 in alg 2 trig honors and a 95.86 in chem regular. but i dont want to go into the science classes at the program, just math ones, so i’ll probably mention that in my essay
@artist03 Your grades seem fine: I had a 91 also in honors algebra 2 and a b in ap bio…but honestly i’m sure they care about the test way more.
grades don’t matter much, I had like low 90 average, like 92 maybe, and i got in as a freshman
The most important element is the exam. They are not pouring over applications and essays as closely as you are probably imagining because this is not like actually being admitted to Columbia. It’s a high school program limited to the tri-state region.
Hi guys, does anybody have a copy of their previous entrance essays, I want to see them just to give me an idea about what I should write about. If not, can you guys/gals tell me about how to get what you wrote about in your previous essays?
^^ You need to sit down and think about what you want to convey to the committee about yourself and write it in your own words. If thousands of kids can do it each year without looking at other essays, I’m sure you can do it too.
Bumpppp and also quick question- I’m a freshman, so will getting a B in math (for the last two semesters) drastically affect my chances if I do really well on the challenge portion of the math test?
@whimsicalwhims They don’t care about grades too much if you perform well on the math section…but you do need to know your math solidly to perform exceptionally on the challenge math, so if your grade (in your opinion) is a reflection of how well you know math versus an awful teacher or whatever, then you might run into difficulty.
can anyone give a sample question for the hard math section? like maybe question 13-15?

Best of luck to you all who are taking it tomorrow! (Well, today, considering it’s 2 in the morning.)
Good luck everyone!
How did everyone do on the exam?
It went… oddly. Not great on Challenge Math, honestly.
(For the record, I was the guy in the front of the room in the Star Wars t-shirt, for anyone who was in the Northwest Corner c: )
I was in the Pupin Hall 301, I think I got maybe 47/50 on the first math, I left 10 blank for the science, and 10/15 on the challenge math.
