@JKMSNJ It says on the webpage tomorrow, June 20th
5:00 pm!
It’s past 5:00 PM and I still haven’t seen anything on my account, has this occured for anybody else?
Me too @Fibbonachi10
I think they are currently putting up the results
they’re up already. just look at the bottom
Yeah, I just got the results - I got in.
I got in too. Congrats, dude. Have you heard anything about any of the courses? I think I may be interested in the relativity or particle physics courses.
Does anyone know when the course selection sheet will get here? I’m so excited and nervous at the same time
Is there an age limit for the lower grade applicants/students?
So I took the SHP Exam a couple years ago, and this was written then, but now only being posted.
I am a junior and never heard about this program before, sadly. I wish I did because then I would’ve had multiple tries to get in. The test wasn’t that bad, so I wish I could’ve had more chances because the next time I would know what to study. Also, I’m pretty sure they give the same test every year to everyone. I say this because I myself was looking at this page and some other forums talking about the exam and many of the questions people had mentioned, I got. But the test would definitely not have been as easy (PSA: it’s not a super easy test, but if you know you’re stuff you should be fine) as it was for me if I was a freshman or sophomore (BUT THIS IS JUST ME, DON’T FREAK OUT if you are a freshman or sophomore). So the test wasn’t bad, but its def not easy, because otherwise I, like everyone else who took it, would get in. Overall, from a scale of 1 through 10 (10 being the hardest) I would have to give this test a 7-8 on difficulty, (but probably less, but then again, I don’t want to be too overconfident). Pretty much, I’m trying to say that you have a chance, even if you think, like me, that there’s a bunch of other smart people out there.
Also, to say the truth you really don’t need to study for this. But if you’re like me, then you will feel compelled to study the things I have listed below, because otherwise you think you will fail. But really, you don’t need to study for this exam. It’s really basic stuff, and if you get good grades you should be fine. Yes there are parts of the exam, from Bio especially (which I haven’t taken since 9th), that I wish I studied before, but I was able to guess the answers because the questions are quite basic.
So this test has 3 sections: EZ Math, Science, Hard Math. Wrong answers are penalized, so don’t answer if you don’t know or can’t cut down the choices.
EZ Math:
This is pretty much SAT level math as others have been saying and super easy. There isn’t anything really that has to do with specific types of math, except who about empty sets.
Also, it would really help you to know your triangle triples, and 30-60-90 ratios.
Science:
Has 2 30 min parts. 1st part has 45 questions, second 30.
Part 1: basic facts; main bio, chem, and physics topics
Part 2: Lab data is given, must apply it/science knowledge to answer questions correctly.
Hard Math:
So everyone’s been saying it’s like the AIME or AMC (which btw I didn’t even know what this stuff was before this forum) but I don’t think that’s true. Ya there are some question’s which I left blank, 5/15 of them to be precise, but all of them are do-able. Many don’t require as much thought as some AMC 10 questions, except for maybe 2-3. Other than that, if you know how to apply knowledge, you should be fine. But like what other’s were saying, I think this really makes or breaks it for you especially since I thought the rest of the test wasn’t as hard as I expected. I say this because I didn’t think the other parts were as hard as I expected, so I think that everyone else thought it was easy and probably did as well as I think I did (which i think is like a solid 70-90) then all of us would be getting in. But only like 15% of applicants get in, so this hard part is really what makes/breaks it. I think for me it probably broke it, but I haven’t lost hope.
Overall, no matter how dumb you think you are, or how many other people who you think can get it, you def have a chance. And you really, really don’t need to study for this. So don’t waste your time trying to study.
I wish I can say more here, but please, please, please, feel free to private message me if you need guidance. And believe me, you won’t regret asking for help.
Biology: Respiration (Aerobic/Anaerobic) and oxygen, theory of spontaneous generation,
Key scientists that worked within biology (don’t go and study every single scientist in bio there ever was, cuz like I said, this is a basic test)
Lamark, Mendel, Pasteur,
Chemistry: Stoichiometry, Equilibrium Constants, g—>moles, Redox identify the OA, acid definition,
Physics: F=ma (Newton’s Second law), KE formula, Coulomb’s law,
Misc?: Electric current, resistance, amps, planetary orbits/motions, antigens,
Graph with cold and hot air, where will lightning strike?
“Couple” questions:
What level of AMC 10 Math is good to know?
Does the science section reserve itself to Bio and Chem Honors?
Is probability rampant among the questions, or is it a safe topic to simply brush over a bit?
Is a calculator allowed? (If yes, are there any restrictions on the kind we can use?)
As a freshman, do they cut you slack if you cannot answer as many questions correct as a sophomore or a junior can?
Are your chances of getting in higher than other grades if you are a freshman?
Thanks!
@ADITYAEMPIRE science includes some physics and earth science questions, but not too many
there is probability so if you don’t know it well, learn
no calculators
and yeah they go easier on freshman bc they obviously wouldn’t know as much as the other grades, but I don’t think that means that your chances are higher of getting in as a freshman
oh and don’t forget the challenge math questions
also I’m pretty sure that you lose points for questions answered wrong so yeah
Is it all multiple choice?
@My Cupcake ye pretty sure
I’m currently a freshman, and I’m going to take the CSHP entrance exam on April 27th. What topics are on the test? I’m trying to study for it, but I have no idea how! Any tips would help!!! Thx.
Hey I am too! I’m stressing out a bit because i did everything except the person who was supposed to do my recommendation never did it and i’m worried that’s gonna effect me badly. What hall did you get? I got Pupin Hall.
Hi ..My Brother and I will be taking the test on April 6th ..we both got Pupin Hall as well.. will be travelling from Northern NJ. Any one else from NJ .. lets connect and hope to figure out what we need to study (if anything)
Hi! I’m from Northern NJ too; taking the test on the 27th. I got the International Affairs Building. What school do you go to?
I go to Northern Valley Old Tappan .. how about you? any one else taking a test on April 6th?
