@CHSP2022. My D hasnt taken Physics.. so she had to leave almost all blank..and left at least 4 blank in last section.
She did very well in other parts.. lets see
Thanks!
@CSHP2022 I am also a freshman at LHS lol, I know this may seem really weird, but who are you, if you dont wanna tell me thats cool and I get it.
I’m a freshman, taking the exam April 27th in Pupin Hall. Not sure how to prepare for this, if anyone who has already taken it and has advice please share :)) Also I don’t know physics or chem, am I screwed??
email me at cshp2022@gmail.com (temporary email I made since I do not want to reveal my name here)
Do we lose more points if we answer incorrectly or is it ok to leave questions blank?
They don’t tell you the guessing penalty, but there definitely is a guessing penalty.
how hard was the challenge math section?
I’ve asked quite a lot of people, and they’ve all said that the challenge math section is overrated, not much harder than the AMC 8. Is this true? Or should I prep for sm harder?
To add on, what topics are covered in the Challenge Math section? I don’t mean AMC 10, but rather discrete math, like counting, number theory, geometry, and algebra.
I am a freshman. I think I’m good on math bc I’m in a double accelerated math class. But for science, I think I’m screwed. are there going to be physics and chem on the test? And is the test for fresh/soph different from jun/sen?
no I believe the same test is passed out to all students, perhaps the curve is different; they take into account your grade level.
Hello and welcome to the SHP.
test in 2 days. let’s gooo
Lol I still need to study Earth Science. Which building are you guys in? It’s on your ticket. I’m in the Computer Science building.
First I would like to say good luck to anyone who will be taking the test on Saturday. I’ll be at Pupin Hall if anyone feels like dropping by.
I’ve read these posts all the way back to April 6th and I just had to make an account. I hope all of you have somewhat studied for the entrance exam after asking about what would be on the test and what not. At first, I had been planning on asking a few questions about the exam but now that it’s so close on the calendar the only thing I can say is that please don’t underestimate yourself.
If you think you need to study, then study. If you think you will do fine without it, then you will. Whatever you do, do not enter the building with “I should’ve studied harder”, “I’m not going to make it”, or any kind of similar thoughts, on your mind. You will be fine. Know that you have a limitless potential and Columbia University does not have to prove this to you. You will do fine. We are all human beings and have flaws. No one is perfect. It is not the end of the world if you do not pass. If you do not, don’t stress it. You will have years to improve and develop until university or college rolls around. I believe in you, all of you, and you’ll do great on this exam.
Also, don’t eat too much sugar before the exam. You’ll get restless and I’ve heard that high sugar intake impairs memory and learning skills. Look after yourselves.
Do they give calculators bc it says not to bring one
@hahaherewego thanks for the advice. Have u taken this test before?
@urboithanos u cant.
I’ve been studying AMC 10 questions 1-15, is this okay? Also aside from bio, chem, and basic physics(I am a sophomore); what other areas of science should I know? I have studied some earth science such as the layers of the earth and tectonic plates, but what else is there that could come up on the test?
Thanks in advance.
@college3981 it varies, some of the questions in the “AMC” section are pretty easy, like 1-15 AMC 8 level, while a couple range to medium-level AMC 10.
You might want to study weather patterns and topographic maps (in the one day left that you have).
