Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

@smileyfox I am most definitely not joking lol, but I am just speaking from my personal experience so don’t take what I say as fact. I was in the same boat (I thought it wasn’t even worth trying) so I hope I have helped at least a little. There is ALWAYS hope, good luck!!

wishing everyone taking the exam tomorrow the best of luck! this discussion thread helped a ton considering i went into applying for this program completely blind; these posts are giving me a mixture of hope and fear of what is awaiting me on that exam tomorrow morning.

@comradenapoleon wow, thank you so much for those encouraging words! i really do hope that everyone in this discussion thread gets in! you all have been so helpful and I’m so glad that i found this!

@theangrybird i completely agree with you! it’s really helped a lot and hopefully we all ace it!

good luck everyone!!

Good luck!

Does anyone know when does results come out?

@su1228 not sure but i’m pretty excited! how was the test for everyone?

pretty good! i think i improved a lot on the science and challenge math sections compared to last year which was my goal.
i’m so anxious to know if we got in or not

The test was way easier than I thought it would be

What did people get for the ratio of photosynthesis to respiration question, the experimental determination of the electron configuration of carbon question, the why are prehistoric animal classifications sometimes changed question, and the challenge math?

@jkotl0327 omg i had no idea what to do for the date of photosynthesis one so i just put 1:1. i put ccl4 for the carbon one i think and i’m extremely confident i got it wrong haha. i forgot the prehistoric animals and which challenge one to be specific? what did you put for the relative size one for astronomy and which one was the smallest?

@smileyfox
i also got 1:1
the carbon question wasn’t on my test, maybe there’s different forms for today’s test?
the relative size one i definitely got wrong which i realized after submitting :frowning:

yeah we definitely got different tests, i didn’t get any of these questions haha

Definitely different, the carbon question I am talking about has to do with electron configuration, not CCl4. I also put 1:1 from a purely logical sense. I don’t think you can have more respiration than photosynthesis since you need photosynthesis’ product for each respiration process. Technically, the plant could store excess glucose and do more photosynthesis, but it wanted optimal growth so I thought 1:1 made sense. I don’t recognize the other questions you mention.

Am I the only one that got kind of confused with the civil/noncivil workers graph?

@Closedwindow totally. they were definitely very confusing.

@Closedwindow yes

When do admissions results come out? And how are they going to decide who gets in if everyone thought the test was easy?

@jkotl0327 I think the challenge section is weighted the most, so maybe they’ll see who performed the best on those 10 questions along with the rest of the questions. not sure though.
Hopefully by the end of august. at least they have the exams graded automatically (i think) so they’ll probably have that and the transcripts/recommendations/essay taken into consideration

Do you guys think a 7-8/10 on the challenge math would cut it?
