Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

ahhh results come in 9 days!

good luck everyone!

how many correct answers from each section would you consider safe for a freshman? i would say i got 38-40 for science, 38-40 for easy math, and 9 for challenge math. good luck everyone :))

What is the approximate acceptance rate for seniors? How many questions are you expected to know if you’re a senior and have taken all bio, chem, and physics?(good luck everyone  )

I would say your chances are about 50/50. I think your math scores are fine, so the science will make or break your application. 40/50 isn’t great for science generally speaking, but considering you’re only a freshman, that’s not too bad.

And Antigen3670, I honestly have no idea what the acceptance rate for seniors is.
I assume if you’re a senior 45+ on science would put you in a good place.

oh @blackhole99 my bad! i meant 48-50 for science. thanks for ur help!!

To rising sophomores applying: you don’t really have to worry that much. I have a few friends who got in as sophomores a few years back having minimum chem and physics knowledge. They are not super math-oriented either so they probably did not get full score on the difficult math portion.

good to know!! thanks! good luck to everyone for decisions tomorrow!!

didn’t they say "We are now working on admissions, and hope to have completed that process by Friday August 21st, at which point announcements will be posted online. Please await further information on how admissions decisions will be made available. "??? how will we know how the results are released? email or canvas? i honestly doubt that they’ll be out tomorrow because of the lack of updates and stuff. maybe they’ll extend it for another week?
if i’m wrong, please correct me!

oh wow :frowning: i thought they would be out by tomorrow. and i’m assuming we get access to decisions on canvas.

don’t take my word for it! this is just kinda my assumption. hopefully they’ll be out but they haven’t released how results will be out yet so im just assuming

good luck!

Yea, cello170, now that I think about it, you might be right. I think I read in past logs that decisions getting delayed isn’t uncommon. Hopefully it’s up on canvas tomoroow tho. Honestly I’m kind of anxious and going another week when I thought it would be a week earlier would be torture.

Hey! I took the exam as a freshman last year (pre COVID-19 since I’m now a rising Junior) and got in first try! In terms of the challenge math section, if you do AMC 10 practice questions (typically questions 1-15) you should be fine. I believe the cut off for challenge math is that you need to get 10 or more out of 15 questions correct (I think I got around 12-13, which definitely helped my score).

ok so with everyone waiting on decisions … i don’t mean to overthink (so please point out if i am!! i rlly want to be put in line bc i’m going out on a hunch here) but i checked my canvas this morning and was just going through the stuff on the side bar … and i happened to click on “My Courses” and this page come up with three sections: current semester courses, next semester courses, and past semester courses.

under all of these sections is an empty list of [fall 2020 courses] and [spring 2021-summer 2021] courses, and at the bottom of each section it says, “reflects registrar changes through aug-20-2020 08:30:10AM.”

keep in mind i was asleep at 8:30 am - i literally checked my canvas at 12:30 pm ish and haven’t touched my canvas in ages.

i literally freaked when i saw it and i’m sure i never saw this page before; i inspected every section in canvas before and never noticed this, which meant it was previously empty. and ok, i might be overthinking this, but can anyone check their canvas and tell me if they have anything similar?? these canvas accounts were made by columbia so they control everything on our canvas + the canvas is under columbia’s name, so it seems strange that i might have a page about the semester and courses unless?? guys please check and let me know!! i really don’t want to get my hopes up only to have them come crashing down.

oh and in each section, under fall 2020 or spring 2021, it says course number - course name - and instructor.

@theangrybird i think that info has always been on our canvas account by default

the admissions results could also be posted on the applyyourself website

did it come up on your canvas? and if so, what do you think might be up with the ‘updated by registrar on august 20 at 8:30 thing?’
