Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

I got my acceptance letter and I’m on Long Island. It’s a very brief letter and it gives you some stats on the people who took the tests. The second sheet was just a letter that you had to fill out. To the person going to china whose coming back in august, the letter said that the form had to be sent before the end of July. Any more suggestions on the course I should choose?

anyone who has done this program before, how is organic chem? i’m going to be taking chemistry next year, and was wondering if it would be worth my time, or if it requires some basis of chemistry prior to the course in SHP..?

I think orgo is one of the most popular classes! This past year I took AP chem and asked my teacher if organic would be helpful and he said no. If you’re really interested I’d say maybe try it in the spring because it will definitely be easier to follow after some experience with chem.
The only other advice I can give is that neuro wasn’t great but I’m pretty sure the teacher changed so it’s probably better now. (:

Neon, what are all of the classes you have taken and what can you say about them?

Lol I’ve just taken neuro and relativity. Both were somewhat over my head but still interesting. my relativity teacher was way better but I’m pretty sure my neuro teacher was replaced. Relativity was more interesting partly because of the teacher and partly because I love physics. I’d definitely recommend it but it’s better if you’ve taken calculus. Neuro might be great now…we had an old instructor sub in for a day and he was great so a different teacher might make all the difference.
Sorry, I hope that made sense. I’m on my phone and it’s late and I’m tired and distracted lol. If you can’t tell though I love this program even though I hate having to get up early every weekend. The other kids are pretty interesting even when the course material is tough. If you get in don’t take it for granted!
Also there used to be a bunch of us on here answering questions but now it’s just me and I’m not sure why…

what about number theory, anyone? do you have to be SUPER good at math…or just interested in numbers to like the course?

Well hell, I’m probably screwed.

Can you fax the info because I won’t be home

Just got my rejection…oh well, I’m a freshman, and I can apply again next year.

accepted!! i’m so excited! i’m from central NJ so it’s going to be a pain to drive there every weekend… but worth it!

i’m hoping to take a math, organic chem, or neuroscience course if they offer them. the letter says they’ll mail out specific course descriptions in early september.

i’m still in shock! i really didn’t think i’d get in with 12/15 on challenge math :O

mail truck going around… getting ready for the rejection letter :D

^Haha same here cortana

Got the letter. Rejected.

eh, got accepted :D. live in northern nj.
congratulations to all who got in,
for the ones who didnt, dont let your hopes down this was my 2nd try :O

no letter in the mail today from near nyc.. itll probably come tomorrow which means tomorrow will be either a very good or very bad day, as sat ii scores come out as well

after seeing posts from last year, i think they may send out acceptances first, followed by rejection letters

do you know if they check your workbook (the scrapbook you use for the challenge math section) to see how you solve some questions?

I’m not sure how they select their applicants, but if they ran off all the scantrons right away, we wouldn’t have to wait until late june to know…so that would mean the process is more than just seeing how many are right/wrong.

ACCEPTED!!! I can’t believe it…I’m really in disbelief right now…

I did 10 out of 15 on the challenge math (but I don’t think I got any wrong)…so I guess it’s not completely based on that. Though my essay was pretty crappy too…

btw I live in Central NJ and I’m a rising junior :)

based on the stats is it harder to get in if your a junior, to be senior?

@daniel if you look at the posts right above you, there are people who received rejections so no, columbia doesn’t do that

@Sophia i got 11 challenge right but 4 wrong so there is a chance i got accepted. Still heavily anticipating a rejection though
