Columbia University Waitlist 2024 Discussion

@dmVcof2020 If you have committed to Brown, what at Columbia interests you to stay on the waitlist? I am curious why you would choose Columbia over Brown. If I had Brown, I’d be withdrawing from all places to make room for others.

@SAYSA Would you choose Brown over Columbia? I withdrew all my application except for Brown because I have half a mind to go there, but wasn’t entirely sure

@spinCaster15 If I had Brown, I’d absolutely go and not worry about Columbia. But, I understand if you have specific reasons for choosing one school over another and simply wanted to know. That’s all.

It looks like with Columbia accepting 200 more people than usual pretty much killed our chances of getting off the waitlist… Anyone know if the pandemic is making more people commit to Columbia or less?

@staylor1490 there is still hope! It is unlikely that anyone would be pulled off the waitlist so we can likely expect some to get off later on. It’s not even May 1 yet :)) I think that more would choose a remote college such as Dartmouth or Cornell such as Columbia since it is in NYC. I have also heard many students taking gap years which would open spots in class of 2024.

@staylor1490 I disagree, it’s still really early. Usually Columbia doesn’t start taking people off the waitlist until mid-May. Also, I’m almost positive that significantly less people are committing to Columbia, especially if they got into other Ivies like Brown or Cornell. NYC is the epicenter of the pandemic right now, and it’s going to be a long time before anything is back to normal.

Let’s hope that’s true! Brown, Yale, Cornell, and Dartmouth are already taking off from their waitlist.

@staylor1490 Where did you hear/see that Yale started going to its waitlist?

Reddit and CC.

@staylor1490 could you send me the link please? I can’t find.

@baqeben13 I don’t think Yale has yet. There’s nothing on the Applying to College subreddit

i think they’ll start taking off next week, but some think as early as tomorrow?

@baqeben13 @macaowllover i don’t know if this counts at all, but I saw a girl on tiktok posting “imagine getting off the waitlist at yale and not ucla” so they might have had some movement

@spinCaster15 I thought you committed to Penn though??

@mglo24 I did!! I just always kind of doubted, as many do. I committed two weeks ago but kep thinking about Brown

Hello all, I have a question… so I just found out yesterday I received an regional athletic award, and I didn’t know if I should email my AO about this… would this be bugging them? Any thoughts?
