We shouldn’t hear anything tomorrow due to Memorial Day, I think, no?
Yeah they’re closed tmrw
at this point do you guys think that they’re looking less at the academic achievements and more at like who we are as ppl? or am i just too hopeful lol
They probably are just looking to fill in majors that they are lacking. I don’t think they are looking at either academic achievements nor personality unfortunately.
Damn
Do you guys know which majors they are lacking? I applied under engineering :’)
And I’m kinda new to this whole thing too, so sorry if the question is dumb…do people from the waitlist get notified if they aren’t on the waitlist anymore (like rejection)?
i did political science so im screwed
w most schools they dont let you know when the waitlist closes but apparently ivies and other top schools are different, so they might send an email to us saying the class is full
I really do hope they have space for a religion major
Pretty sure they are not filling the waitlist by prospective major. That is rarely the case for colleges like Columbia that do not admit by major. I don’t know for Columbia specifically but I do know for a sister Ivy and suspect it’s the same.
Columbia only admits by school – i.e. Columbia College (CC), School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), General Studies (GS). Regardless of what major you express an interest in on your app, you are admitted without a major and typically don’t declare until Spring of Sophomore year and can pick anything you want then (or a combo of two things).
It is more likely they are picking people based on types – STEM-y, Humanities-y, etc., demographic (region, gender, etc.), whether you play a particular instrument or sport (not recruit) or were the type to be a student government officer or editor of the paper, etc. So if they picked a certain number of people in the original class who were big on jazz music performance and they disproportionately lost that cohort to declines, they might look for more jazz kids, etc. (To be clear, I gave that as a hypothetical example, not a specific one in this case – though Columbia does love its jazz!)
Did anyone manage to confirm if commitment & deposit date was pushed back from May 1 to June 1 due to the FAFSA delays.
It was not moved back. It was still May 1st.
Yes Columbia notifies people. Last year they sent a notification around the first week of June.
Is anyone going to call admissions today
FAFSA delays may mean that someone who has accepted a spot at Columbia may be offered a spot at a school they like better. If that happens, Columbia is no longer fully enrolled and needs its WL for that 1 spot. It’s a long game of musical chairs. And it’s why calling admissions is fruitless.
I’m in school till they close so I can’t, pls tell me someone else will
Call them to ask what?
Just about the progress of the waitlist admissions is what I’d do, like if they’re still admitting and if it’s on a rolling basis
just called, they said that they dont know anything about the waitlist status
What do you mean can you please elaborate
