I am so frustrated with this process. I know my D24 is not more special than 100’s of kids, but the kid who got into Columbia from her school just doesn’t have the same resume- there are some objective pieces to this subjective puzzle.
Then on top of that, how is it that only 2 girls from her school got into top 20 schools? ( her school is best public hs in our state!) Neither of who are in top 10 let alone top 30% of the class. It all just doesn’t make sense. I am not asking for anything here just a place to vent how sad I am for my D and all of you waiting - who I assume have similar stories. I keep it positive with my D and let her know the path that opened for her will be amazing.

I get it my son was valedictorian full of accolades… sometimes We just don’t have the luck of the draw! Still hopeful, but grateful for the other opportunities that he has… Remember, they can always transfer after the first year. I think the chances of getting a little higher since they were waitlisted prior.

It is so good to know we are not alone. I don’t think my D will transfer- new goals to now. She got a prestigious fellowship at a state school (oos for us) and will hope for a Fulbright or Rhodes or something big like that. This is just one step. I read teen years are only 7% of one’s life. So much more ahead.
We also looked at who got into Columbia from her school over the last 4 years. All talented but one trick kids- robotics or math award etc but not a resume of leadership and service . Maybe Columbia isn’t right for her?! I don’t know - rationalizing I suppose. But it helps!

I believe when I originally applied for the waitlist, the expected return was June 1st latest.

May 15-June 30 is what they said. Last year closed up June 12

being on the waitlist is a soft rejection fr, dang i wouldve jus preferred to get rejected in the first place

don’t lose hope, its unlikely but theres still a chance. give it some time, dont lose hope until you get the email that the waitlist is closed. good luck
