That’s great that your son has access to Southborough Medical (It’'s practically on campus) and where my own kids go. Are you able to access his records through MyChart? I find that so helpful and you can also have the physician message you. If he’s seen by the peds department, they are all wonderful.
This thread is an interesting (scary) read right about now.
I’m reading through a bunch of old BS threads right now as part of my research process. I came across this one and it’s like a time capsule. Lots of things that just seem foreign now and are from a different time and age. 6 months ago.
Posting mostly because I thought it was interesting to read and remind myself how differently we all thought about illness just 6 months ago. I thought if I gave this post a bump up others might find that interesting as well.
@dadof4kids - here’s the crazy part. He had been sick for 3 weeks before he tested positive for flu with what my doctor is now sure was Covid (he had some of the werider symptoms that didn’t get reported until later in the pandemic). Flu was the result of being so run down from the Covid that he then got the flu. No wonder the nurse told me he was looking too chipper to have the flu. He was feeling better than he had felt in a month.
We believe he got it at a wrestling tournament right after returning from Winter break. Many of the athletes had just returned from Asia, Europe and the West Coast.
@vwlizard Did your son get a COVID antibody test? We’ve seen many people who believed they previously had COVID, but then tested negative. There were a number of other bad viruses going around early this year.
There are a lot of false negatives (20%+) on the antibody tests plus the length of time between the illness and the test can impact their validity. My daughter had a similar experience back in January - Covid symptoms before anyone thought to test for it.
@Atlas - he didn’t as my pedi felt he had is so early on that he might not still test positive. She also didn’t think it would offer any information about immunity so would not serve as anything but a curiosity measure.
He had sores on his toes and passed out trying to walk up a hill along along with a fever at night that would go down in the morning and a persistent cry cough and felt like he couldn’t breathe. He even lost 5 lbs that he didn’t have to lose. I was beside myself that no one could figure out what was wrong with him. He came home for a long weekend and was beginning to get better, but left me with the inability to walk the dog without getting winded, a dry cough and I lost my sense of smell. (Also before we knew that was a symptom).
I asked him if anyone else at school was as sick as he was and he wasn’t aware of anyone that was as sick as he was, but he said a lot of kids had flu or a virus.
