Comm 180 Waitlist

I’m in like position 60 is there any hope I will get into that class?

COMM 180 is one of those really popular classes among pre-Comm students. Many first year students take it because it is the intro course to business and McIntire. And those second-year pre-COMM students who did not get to take it in their first year are unlikely to drop it because they want COMM 180’s grade on their COMM school applications. Given your position on the waitlist, I would say your chance is rather minimal.

If I were you, I would look into COMM 201 or COMM 341. Yes, COMM 341 Business Law is the best and easiest COMM class (40% A and 40% A-) and it is open to all students in the University! Many don’t realize they can take COMM 341 until they are well into their second semester of second year.

Edit: I just checked, and there are still spaces for COMM 341!!!

Just out of curiosity, does COMM341 have a good mix of students from all classes? Or is it more of a first/second/third/fourth year course

I’ll say COMM 341 in the fall: ~50% 4th year, ~30% 3rd year, ~18% 2nd year, and ~2% 1st year.
COMM 341 in the spring: ~30% 4th year, ~35% 3rd year, ~30% 2nd year, and 5% 1st year.

Again, most first year students don’t realize they can take COMM 341. But the curriculum of COMM 341 does not require the background of COMM 180, 201, or 202 and it is a required course for COMM school students. So if you are determined to do COMM school, COMM 341 is a course that you will need to take eventually. And many students from other schools also take this class just because Wheeler is such a great guy and the contents of this course is so applicable to everyday life.

it says that it requires an instructor’s consent before you can enroll in comm 341.

Yes, just shoot an email to wheeler, he lets everyone in.

k cool. i just filled out that “justification form” and sent it.

WTC, are in reality Professor Wheeler, advertising your own class? I had a chuckle thinking about that.

jc, you must not know Wheeler. I don’t think he likes computer at all. He never does powerpoint. He never uses the document camera. He only uses the chalkboard. He never uses toolkit, collab, or blackboard. Every handout is given in class. Grades are posted on a notice board (don’t worry, he hides your grades with an unique ID). Nonetheless, he does send emails to communicate with the class, but not too often. Further, I don’t think Wheeler needs any advertisements. You can check on thecourseforum.com or rateyourprofessors.com. Many students agree that COMM 341 is the best class in COMM school. Finally, to give you something more convincing, while Businessweek ranked McIntire No 2 in the nation in 2008, the magazine rated McIntire’s business law program the best in the nation. And there is only one person who teaches business law in McIntire…Wheeler.

I have found the article. [Top News](http://www.commerce.virginia.edu/newsletter/2008_03/wheeler.html)

He still has not accepted and/or given me consent to enroll in the class. I’m getting kind of worried now. Does he usually take this long?

He does sign course action form, I would not worry at all

@ googler

Did you got wheeler’s consent for comm 341? I’m still waiting too.

No i have not. I dont know if he is just not receiving the request or what. But i hope he accepts it, i really want to take that class.

Guys, don’t worry, Professor Wheeler’s probably gearing up for class. He’ll get around to those requests.

And, I believe in their last set of rankings Business Week ranked McIntire #1. :D

Cheers from the UVA Student Blog.

I’d say go ahead and take COMM 201 if you can’t get into 180. I took 180 last in fact, during the semester I was applying to the comm school. Didn’t kill me.

on sis it says that COMM 2010 is for 2nd year arts and sciences students only.

Googler, i’m a first year too and i’m enrolled in this class so you gotta check that with your advisor. Good luck with that

just a heads up if anyone was still wondering - wheeler said today that any 1st or 2nd years on the waitlist (the instructor permission form you filled out on SIS) and not currently enrolled will not have a spot in any of his sections. also, he said that the commerce school no longer uses course actions forms, all that kind of stuff is done through SIS
