Community College Anxiety

Okay, so my friend is majoring in fashion (i think color consulting), and she’s taking 3 classes altogether this semester: her fashion class, a Friday field trip class, and a basic computer training class, which teaches things like how to work Microsoft Word, place pictures on her work, and the MLA format for typing essays, which she already knows how to do. She has been there for about 3 years already. This is at Palomar Community College. We both rely on public transit, not only to get to and from school, but anywhere else we want to go as well. The public transit in our area is planning to make drastic changes in the routes. This upsets both of us, but she is the one freaking out about it. The thing is, there is an open house to discuss any questions, comments, and/or concerns for the public (that’s us) has. It’s on a Saturday, from 11am-1:30pm. She doesn’t have school that day. Granted, she does work that day, but only from about 4pm-10pm, and it would take her no more than 40 minutes to get home, and her work is right down the street from her house. That would give her almost 2 hours to get ready and be there. She would have plenty of time. After a good 10-15 minutes freaking out about it, she says she “can’t go because she would have too much homework that day”. This is not the first time she’s decided to miss out on something really important because it would take a few hours out of more than 4 months of the semester. However, I’ve never seen her get lower than a “B-ish” on her final grades. It really frustrates me, because, number one, these are classes at a community college and, number two, she not taking that many classes, and they are not that hard, especially compared to the classes I’m taking, like Child Development and American Sign Language 100, which is taught by a deaf teacher, who cannot speak English, and even I have the time to go to this thing. Am I right on this? Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me to help her through this? Or at least on how she can help herself?

Child development is hardXcore bro.

Yeah Child Development is more rigorous and harder than Engineering.

Do either of you know someone who could give you a ride?

Personally, I think ASL is way harder when a hearing person teaches it.

I think your friend needs to decide she wants to change before anything can happen. I know it’s annoying, but you just need to concentrate on getting the best education that you can and let her figure out things on her own.

TBH, I absolutely hate doing anything after work, especially if I’m wokring late (past 8pm). How many hours per week does she work? I think it’s a little unfair for you to judge how much energy she has on her light school schedule if she’s working, too.

Fashion? Color consulting? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

she works 2 days a week, about the same hours mentioned above each day.

If the issue were that important to her, she’d find a way to attend. Her actions speak louder than her words.

See if you can rent a ZipCar?
