Concern letter

I just got a letter from cornell admissions saying that my final transcript showed a decline in grades and it is a cause of concern!!!

They ended the letter saying that they hope that I will come to cornell in the fall motivated to work my best and will enjoy my cornell experience!

So, is there anything to be worried about??

If you don’t work harder than you did your senior year there is:)

I would take it as a warning. A lot of freshmen tend to party hardy first semester. I think that’s their way of telling you not to take college lightly.

Out of curiosity, which college are you in?

Ok!! So… They just want to tell me that I have to work hard in college, right???

Its not like they are revoking my admission or putting me on academic probation , right???

Bcoz they said, we hope you will come in the fall motivated to do your best… That means, I will be going to cornell in the fall , right???

That what it sounds like, unless in the letter they are asking for explanation or additional document.

Cornell is hard…very hard. A definite escalation in the demands of high school. My S knows lots of kids who haven’t made it…they’ve been distracted and have fallen behind. That’s the kiss of death. It’s just a warning. They want you to succeed. Good call on their part, I believe. Keep this letter in the back of your mind as you move forward. Lots of people you meet and are friends with will not have the benefit of a warning like this.

Well 123: it’s clear that you’ve gotten their attention. But it should also be clear to you that if they wanted to revoke you, they would have clearly said so. You’re not on any formal probation but I’m sure you’re on a “watch” list of potentially poor-performing freshmen.

Hopefully their concern for you will prove to be un-justified.

As you know kids do drop out for academic reasons. That includes Ivy leaguers too

It also said… ‘Ur performance was not upto the standards we expect from our students’!!!

So, it’s just a warning to start studying more , right??

It doesn’t mean anything else?? Right??

They wouldn’t beat around the bush. If your admission were revoked, it would be obvious. Calm down. This isn’t a mystery to be solved.

On the other hand, it certainly isn’t an ordinary letter to receive. While they are not revoking your admission, they are strongly suggesting that you come to Cornell prepared to work hard and not slack off like your second semester grades must have indicated. There were a lot of Cornell hopefuls that did not get in. You did. Don’t lose sight of this. Use it as a motivator.

Just to add to what has been said above, I know people who were “recommended” to take a semester (or year) off from Cornell because their grades were not up to par. Cornell is first and foremost a university focused on academics - you have to work hard to play hard or else it’s going to be a very rough 4 years.
