Concurrent Ed.?

Hi there! I’m new to the forums but I have been lurking for a while now. xD

I’m considering applying to a B.A./B.Ed at Queen’s and I was wondering if my EC’s were any good because I’ll have to write “a personal statement of experience”.

Distinctive qualities would be:

 • Came to Canada at age 8 and knew no English; at age 12, I was classified as gifted in English and I still do extremely well in the subject
 • Copy editor on the school newspaper with a very good chance to be editor-in-chief for two consecutive years; I also write articles for every issue
 • I tutor kids in French once a week, and I take additional French lessons
 • I’m co-directing a play that warns against substance abuse
 • Next year, I’m *planning/i to start a club that promotes awareness of eating disorders. The main premise will be to try and dispel stigmas associated with eating disorders and eventually, I’m planning on inviting a speaker to talk to students about the image issues that adolescents face. Eventually, I’m hoping we’ll branch out into prevention and a more active role in preventing teenagers from developing low self-esteem, etc.

I’m also planning on volunteering at my old middle school, so that’ll be volunteer hours + a good background, I think!

Are these activities/qualities enough or should I get more involved? Keep in mind, I do need an 87% average for this program so I can’t be all over the place either. Thanks!

My D (an international student) was accepted to this program but admittedly that was 3 years ago; I don’t know if it’s more competitive now or if her being an international made a difference but her e.c’s were much less interesting than yours. She did write a personal statement explaining why she wanted to be a teacher. I think what you have done and are planning to do is more than enough.
