Conditional Pathway Program Acceptance Rate

Is the Conditional Pathway Program always offered assuming you meet these requirements:

  • GT first-year applicant not offered first-year admission.
  • Pre-Calculus Math Completion (High School or Dual Enrollment)
  • Listed a family member (grandparent, parent, sibling, or GT employee) affiliated with Georgia Tech within their first-year application.

Not a lot said about if this program is selective or automatically offered. Any help is appreciated!

From the website : “First-Year applicants not offered first-year admission may receive a Conditional Pathway program offer” Given the use of the word “may” combined with the overall strong demand and high academic standards for GTech, I expect there is selectivity to the program. If you have specific questions why not contact GT Admissions directly?

It is always offered to competitive applicants. You have to be of the caliber that they think you can do the work at GT. They won’t care at all about a pre-calc math competition. Many/most kids entering GT have completed through BC Calculus (calculus 1 and 2). Take the highest level math offered at your high school and do well in it - they consider this strongly. If BC is offered, do that.

I was told (5 years ago) that it is automatic and does not have to be offered officially in writing. At that time DD, who by now graduated, applied and was very upset that she first was deffered and then waitlisted (we were OOS). She complained that she didn’t get even Conditional Pathway, so I checked with admissions. I was told that she has conditional Pathway through legacy anyway. We never used it, since she got accepted from waitlist.
To be accepted a student had to take required classes for major according to the website, need 30+ credits taken after HS graduation in one year (by end of spring semester), and have 3.3 GPA at that time. Call admissions and ask how it works now. Looks that now a student needs 3.5 GPA in all college classes.

If you are still in the running for freshman admission you will be offered waitlist (as you have met the freshman admission requirements but they don’t have room for you). If the waitlist closes and you fit into the conditional admission bucket you will be offered a pathway off the waitlist. Happened to one of mine but he ended up at UGA for business and didn’t want to transfer. Ended up being a great decision as he has graduated with an amazing job in an amazing city. I do think it is often not the right decision to take the conditional pathway offer but that is a personal decision.

It definitely has to be offered officially in writing and will be contained in your rejection letter - either when you are rejected EA or RD or when the waitlist closes
