<p>I hope so, too, the_mom, but Arizona is a very politically charged place right now, being at the forefront of the immigration battle. I guess we’ll have to wait and see…</p>
<p>How tragic! For some strange reason my memory went back to when Governor Wallace was shot - that had an effect on me since I was quite young at the time. It is hard to explain to children that, if this is politically motivated, how and why such disagreements could become so violent, in the best free society in the world. Senseless…</p>
<p>U.S. District Court Judge John Roll is reported as having died in this shooting. 9 people, including a child, have been taken to local hospitals.</p>
<p>^^^The Congresswoman’s recent opponent also had some rhetoric on her website that could have been considered incitement but which I am sure was <em>never</em> intended that way. </p>
<p>Judge Roll was apparently the subject of death threats after a recent court decision.</p>
<p>Five are confirmed dead. It is not confirmed if this is including the 9yo or not, so this may be six. It is not clear. The Congresswoman Giffords has survived and ‘the prognosis is good’ but this has not been defined. Judge John Roll has been confirmed dead.</p>
<p>The suspect is Jared Lee Laughner, a 22yo white male. He is in custody. It does appear to be political in nature.</p>
<p>Judge Roll’s death is confirmed. So is the child’s. </p>
<p>It’s not political to mention that Giffords is a Democrat whose office was vandalized after she voted for the healthcare bill, or that Judge Roll received death threats after allowing a civil rights lawsuit (a group of illegal immigrants sued a rancher for holding them at gunpoint when they tried to cross his property) to proceed. Facts have no political bias.</p>
<p>The suspect is 22 years old–prime age for mental illness to set in. Perhaps this tragedy is the result of the suspect’s mental state and some sort of twisted thought process rather than any real political agenda.</p>
