Consequences of Not Finishing Summer Homework

This happened at a district near me: [Hundreds Of Students Suspended During First Day](<a href=“Education Boss Warns That Pizza Parties Break Law – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth”>Education Boss Warns That Pizza Parties Break Law – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth):

The article goes on to say that the superintendant has now extended the deadline to Thursday after parents complained (aka. alerted the local media). I think suspension is far too harsh a punishment for not turning in summer homework. A failing grade for the assignment would be punishment enough.

You just drop the class here if you didn’t do it, it’s not a big deal

There is no need for suspension.

That’s taking it a bit far.

At my school, the only classes that assign summer homework are AP ones, and you are removed from the class if you don’t turn in the assignment. At least, that’s what they say, I’ve never heard of it happening to anyone.

At my school you just simply get an “F” for your first major grade on the first six weeks

o.O

That is ridiculous. You don’t get suspended for not doing homework during the school year, so why would you get suspended for not doing it over summer?!

you just turn it in late for a lower grade if they’ll accept it, or if not you just get a 0 for that assignment. Since when has someone been suspended for not turning in a stupid piece of homework?

yeah, that is somewhat ridiculous. At my school, you only get summer homeworks if you are taking certain AP classes. When I mean certain, I mean my school do not give out summer homeworks for some AP classes, such as statistics, chem, and so on.
