I have just completed my first year of university at university of Glasgow in Scotland. I thoroughly hated almost every second of living in a city and the clubbing culture and I felt as someone who was raised in America it was difficult to fully integrate into the student life. I want to go to law school and the high international student tuition doesn’t seem worth it when I am going to have to do 3 more years after undergrad. Last semester I only applied to one transfer school which is the university of Connecticut seeing as it is better than the other public schools in my state, and they seem to have good pre-law support as well as (I think) a good poli sci department. My father thinks if I transfer to Uconn it will set a precedent of me taking the easy way out of my problems as I did not apply or inquire to any other schools about accepting my credits from UofG. This has led to me doubting myself even though I know I fell into a really bad bout of depression in Glasgow, which I realize was a me problem not a university one. Now I think its too late to apply to other private schools even tho I got into much better unis than Uconn when I was a hs senior. Just wondering if anyone has any advice or thoughts
It’s in state and they accept your credits. So you will save money versus a private school. Seems like a good idea to save money if you will do grad school, law, etc
My S16 graduated from UConn as a PoliSci / Econ dual major. He made it eventually to a job on Capitol Hill and has worked for two congressman and a senator. So I guess PoliSci is OK…
It is the polar opposite of a city with clubs. There’s Ted’s bar and …I guess just Teds.
Have you spoken to a counselor - perhaps there’s deeper issues?
I wish you luck, whatever you decide to do - and hope that you get your family’s support.
I don’t see how UConn could possibly be a bad decision given what you’ve written. It seems perfect! Congrats!
UConn seems like it would be a much better fit for you.
