5 Steps to a 5 is better

Any suggestions for a textbook to accompany Princeton Review for self studying World?

Any suggestions for Ap Enviromental Science? and would I need a supplementary textbook for it?

how about 5 steps to a 5 for APES?

What should I get for these subjects?

Chem - Already bought Barron’s, but Chemistry is my strongest subject, and our teacher has an excellent reputation; is it worth grabbing PR too? I hear PR is a bit brief.
APUSH - Already bought AMSCO, and our teacher has a reputation for having an excellent class; is REA really necessary in addition?
Psych - Self-study + local college courses for General & Social Psych; stick with Barron’s?
Music Theory - Already bought Barron’s, and I’ll try to take a local college course or something, but does anyone have any other recommendations?

The following classes are ones I’m taking senior year (I’ll be a junior), but I want to get prepared early.

Calc BC - Arco or PR? Math isn’t my strongest subject, but our teacher’s supposed to be alright; don’t know if I should go for something more advanced
Spanish Language - No idea here. I’ve skimmed Barron’s and PR, and can’t really tell what.
Physics C: Mechanics - Stick with Barron’s?
Gov & Politics: US - no idea what to get.
English Lit - also no idea

Thanks in advance for any help.

Government & Politics: US; 5 steps to a 5 was AMAZING. It was simple, to the point, and gave me all the information I needed on the exam. Every topic was broken down to even more topics that made it easy to digest. The review questions at the end were extremely helpful, and all the multiple choice in the two practice tests were explained. The only complaint I have is that the essays were not explained, and even the mere format of the AP exam’s essays were poorly explained (although there’s nothing you wouldn’t be able to find online).

World History; I used both Kaplan and Princeton Review. PR was far more enjoyable to read with it’s punny jokes here and there - a good read before the actual exam. It was more brief, but it covered mainly everything. Kaplan was a tad more in depth - a better companion if you plan on using it throughout the year.

Chemistry; I looked at all the other books in the store and Barron’s seemed best, and my teacher highly recommended it. It seemed to be great covering some subjects, but a few were only skimmed over. I also used Zumdahl’s study guide book for extra practice with concepts and calculations. It was great in that is showed me how to do plenty of problems step by step, although I wouldn’t recommend using this alone.

I didn’t get a book for Lang - I prepped by continuously doing past released exams, but my teacher recommended Cliffs - apparently the writer was affiliated with the exam somehow (writer? reader? can’t remember) so clearly she understands it’s voice very well

^Agreed. 5 Steps was a good book. And Cliffs is best for Lang.

Hey guys. I’m trying to find Cliffnotes AP Bio prep book. Do they make new editions every year? I can’t find the latest one if they do either. Could someone give me a link?

How good is 5 Steps for Environmental Science and Psychology?

Should I get another one to complement them?

^ Yes I’d like to know the answer to that too

Thanks, I’ll grab 5 Steps for Gov, and Cliffs for Lang. Thanks for the help guys.

I’m really worried about Psych and Music Theory in particular though, since I’m self-studying those. Anyone have any recommendations on those?

Barron’ and Crash Course for AP Psych!

Do you prefer Barron’s or Crash Course for Psych?

If you’re self-studying, I would go with Barron’s since it reads more like a textbook. Crash Course is amazing for that last week review though! If you can, get both. But Barron’s alone will most likely get you a 5 as well, as long as you go through it thoroughly. Hope that helped!

I thought the Cliffs was great for Biology, and for the U.S. Test, the Kaplan book worked wonders :))

what should i get for psych self study? barrons + crash course?does it matter what version?

-AP Psychology (self)
-Macro/Micro (self)
-Calc Ab/BC (class)
-Physics C E=E/M (class)
-Human Geo (self)
-Computer Science A (class)

which would you choose? As of now, I’m going to guess that it’s:

Psych: Barron’s (which one? How to prepare or the newer one?)
Macro/Micro: 5 steps to a 5
Calc: PR
Phys: PR
HuG: PR
Comp Science: Barron’s

This is what I’ve been hearing around the forum. Remember guys, I plan on buying only ONE book for each subject! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

While The Annotated Mona Lisa is a breezy introduction to art history, I wouldn’t use it as a sole review for AP. It doesn’t have any information specific to the exam format. I used the REA book for AP Art History and got a 5.

for AP Human Geo

Barron’s is not enough to self-study. You have to use examples for the FRQ’s and there are mistakes in the text, even on the maps.

Uhm, hello, guys.
Please excuse me if the book that I ask your opinion about has already been brought into discussion, but I’ve read the first pages of this thread and some other rellevant threads, without finding it.

I’ll be an intls student at Hkiss starting in the fall and I’ll be taking Calc BC. I asked my teacher for a book that I could work on during the summer.

Here is what she answered :

Finney-Demana-Waits-Kennedy: Calculus; Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic. 3rd edition. Published by Pearson, Prentice Hall. ISBN 0-13-201408-4.

Other well-known authors are Stewart, and Varberg & Purcell, in case you have a chance to borrow a Calculus text by them.

The fact is that all of them are a little pricey, esp if I order them while I’m in Romania.
So I wanted to ask wether anyone here has any experience with them, so as to know if they are really worth the money, or not. (I’m interested in this book preparing me both for the class, the AP exam and the SAT Subject test in maths).

Thanks a lot !
