@ Cupcakee. The SAT Subject tests do not cover calculus. Math 2 is mostly Algebra 2/Precalc and Math I is even more basic. So I don’t think that textbook would help you for those tests.

@ Karaokemachine. Barron’s is great for psych self study. I suggest buying crash course 1-2 weeks before the AP exam to ensure a 5.

You can purchase the latest AMSCO here: http://amsco.extendsales.com/AMSCOPUB/control/productdetails?&item_id=9781567656602

Hey guys can anybody give me suggestions for books for the following classes:
AP Biology
AP Calc BC
AP Physics C
AP Lit
AP Macro
AP Chem
thanks :]

AP Bio Cliffs

Can someone please help me out? What do you recommend for AP World History. I’ve heard goods and bads about PR. I’ve also heard about Barron’s. I have a bad teacher and most people recommend Barron’s because of it. But Barron;s is almost 500 pages, should I just stick to my textbook?

^ Use your textbook throughout the year. PR is all you need if you do this. The hard part is forcing yourself to read the respective textbook chapters even if your teacher doesn’t require it!

hahaha, manu101, I know what you mean. THANKS!

For World History I liked Ethel Wood’s book – I found the mc and frqs very similar to those on the exam, and I thought the book was easy to read. The problem is that it isn’t something easily found in bookstores. I had to order it online.
However, I do agree that reading the textbook is mostly enough for WHAP.

For Calc BC, I used Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam published by Skylight. It has both AB and BC materials, and I liked the format, the practice problems, and the explanations. Again, this wasn’t something I found in a bookstore, but rather something I bought online.

I agree with the recommendation of Cliff’s for Bio. I also found the Princeton Review Coloring Book useful sometimes.

Digging up stuff from previously…

I am going to prep consistently throughout the year for 5 self-studied AP exams this upcoming year (Junior). I’m taking at least 3 AP’s in school, (Calculus BC, APUsh, and AP Biology). My school offers hardly any courses and the way our schedules are done in my parish (county, I live in Louisiana) is that a student takes 4 classes one semester and the other 4 another semester. Due to this, year long courses over lap and I can only take essentially 5 classes, instead of 8, next year. The 5 exams I want to self study for are AP Psych, AP Environmental Science, AP Macroeconomics, AP microeconomics, and AP Human Geography. I just have some quick questions.

Is this the good prep book list to get? Just making sure:

Psychology - Barron’s
Human Geography - Barron’s
Macro/Micro - PR
Environmental Science - Smartypants

Is Smartypants really that thorough for such a small book? Is Barron’s great for Human Geography and is it truly that easy of an exam? Are there any other complementary books I should purchase?

For AP Human Geo do not just get barron’s, at least for a self study. I self studied from barron’s and procrastinated a bunch, but on the ap exam there was a ton of stuff I didnt know. I honestly thought I got a 2, but miraculously got a 5…do not do what I did, otherwise you will be praying that the 30% of the exam you completely guessed on is right. This year we also got lucky becasue FRQs 1 and 3 were super easy, #2 i had no idea from barron’s, but was kind of obvious from general knowledge so i just made up a bunch of stuff that got me some points i think. Get Barron’s and something else…I heard REA is good but i’m not sure. It’s longer than Barron’s-I know that

I highly recommend Barron’s for AP Biology. I haven’t taken any of the others yet.

I have some questions. After looking at post 1046, is there any reccomendations on AP English Lit or Spanish Lang.? Also, for Psych is Barron’s the best, or is Princeton Review? I’ve heard mixed. Same goes for World History-Barron’s or Princeton Review? Also, for European History, I’ve recently heard that Princeton Review is best, but I’ve heard great thigns about Modern European History. If I only get one, which one should it be?

Whoever asked about economics, I would say that the Kaplan book is best. I am not a fan of Kaplan in general, and their books were useless for history and others, but if you know everything that is in the economics one, you will most definitely get 5’s on the exams, especially macro. I self-studied without a textbook, just the Kaplan book and having never taken any economics course in school, got 5’s on each.

Barron’s is good for bio, but not as good as cliff’s. I got a 5.

Do NOT get princeton review for stats. It’s horrible and irrelevant, although the practice exams are not bad. Barron’s is excellent. I got a 5.

Gov covers so little material that it’s easier to just use the textbooks. I got a 5.

For USH, I bought a bunch of review books, all of which were at par, but none stood out. I didn’t end up really using them, and I still got a 5.

For Calculus, I had a good teacher, didn’t need review books and got a 5. I’ve looked at some though, and “Be prepared for the AP Calculus Exam” or whatever it’s called is by far the best. It is slightly more difficult than necessary, but if you understand 75% of the material in there you will get a 5, easily.

I only got 4’s in chem and lit, so I may have no credibility there. I don’t think a good lit prep book exists. I owned the multiple choice though, and actually the Kaplan SAT II lit book helped me there the most. I fit helps my case at all I did get a 780 on that test.

For chem, all I can say is do your homework I didn’t enjoy that class, didn’t put much effort into it, and didn’t think of buying a prep book, because I was so disinterested in it.

you sure about kaplan’s for both economics? I heard Princeton Review is best. Same for stats lol-princeton review.

lol “threat” when i just read that and not the bold I thought it meant you were changing to a different threat lol…btw i’m wrong about stats, i heard Barron’s from everyone lol got it mixed up.

What is better to self-study for Microeconomics? 5 Steps to a 5 or PR?

I’m taking Macro at school, btw.

^good question. wondering saem

what’s the best book for environmental science? the list says “smarty pants guide to…” but i’ve never heard of that one…is that one still good/available?

Smartypants is good, but kinda short. PR is really good for environ
