Cooper Union for Graphic Design

<p>I wrote wrong^
“textile painting” is “textile printing”
and why is it repeated?</p>

<p>the design is on black background with blobs of different sizes in gradual grey-red floating on top part, wording “HEART” in right handed half way diagonally (from left side lower to right side higher 45 degree. all wordings are in the same direction, diagonal ascend).
“There is no better…” is in smaller font on the lower left.
listing of classes are tiny white letters, all going same direction and in the same angle, like meteor shower trail (maybe that is an inspiration?) or rainfall (but reads upward)
and no, no any other name of the class is repeated.
if entire pattern is to be repeated, next to “textile printing” should be “type play” but no, below the second “textile printing” comes “acting for animators”
no consistency!!!
more often than not, SVA’s posters are like this.
wordings/details are copy and pasted or just fillers. as if they are only looking at the “whole look”, which are often too obscure and can’t even tell what do they want to say? in some cases viewer can’t tell “who are they?”
they’d have tiny logo of the flower and even tiny-er “school of visual arts” on somewhere that only someone who is good with I-spy books would be able to find it.(me, me, me!!)
why do I care?
it bothers me!!! here is this coveted artschool, known for teaching communication art. but what’s good in so-called (questionable) hi design if people looking at them won’t get what they are trying to tell? (or sell?)</p>

<p>save the Cooper! almost 20,000 views is it?
NY legalized gay marriage and folks are wondering if Ernie and Bert should get married, or at least come out after 30 years living together sleeping in the same room.
I am serious, there are whistle blowers, petition and tweets.
finally, Sesame Workshop published statement saying that, puppet does not have sexual orientation, so let them be.
What jim Henson would have said if he was alive?
<a href=“http://www.movingimage.us/exhibitions/2011/07/16/detail/jim-hensons-fantastic-world/[/url]”>http://www.movingimage.us/exhibitions/2011/07/16/detail/jim-hensons-fantastic-world/&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

<p>HS cartoonists to U Maryland graphic design major, marries college sweetheart, creates muppets, dies suddenly, five kids all took after his dream.
He was really some good artist. Later on, muppents are made by master craftsmen from Jim’s rough drawings so it is hard to tell how much is his vision and how much is crafts people’s rendering that resulted that “looks” (Bert, Ernie, Bigbird etc.)</p>

<p>Museum of the moving image is Astoria studio facility turned into museum dedicated to film and television.
It is only 15-20 min subway from midtown across the river but it hurts being in Queens.
it went thru major facelift lately and interior is sharp, but stuff they got is all the same. history of cinema, all sort of musty cameras and props, costumes.
field trip kids would beeline to computer hands-on area.
Jim Henson show is different. It appeals to EVERYONE. I can not imagine any American never had seen any of his creation no matter what kind of family you are lived/raised in.
the show will be up til Jan. friday evenings are free admission.
cheap local (ethnic) eatery on the side street, supermarket named “Western Beef” got low priced but fresh-est boneless chicken breasts (I bet beef, too I am sure).
Queens rocks.
I can see that lacking hip-o-mater. but wish Cooper kids would migrate toward there instead of Bushwick.</p>

<p>sorry site crashed before thru editing (not that helps anyway…)
HS cartoonist (singular)
Hip-o-meter (or it is matter of hip-ness, Hip-o-matter? which Queens is NOT)</p>

<p>20,000 views and up!! milestone. celebration.
too bad it is about Pratt.
I was minding my own business and walked in front of local Urban Outfitters and billboard says something like designed by Pratt student…
yeah yeah marketing, kissing local butt, yada yada
but hey
They did actually produced winning three designs and they are on sale!
how did they do all that sizing, actual production, inspection, testing etc etc in one summer is question itself but
hey
They did it. made in USA. suspiciously same fabric contents and colorway as other UO dresses already sold around, but let’s not rain the parade.</p>

<p>Kindall’s brown dress
$ 59 with in store bland tag “ecote” (with french e thing) </p>

<p>Simone’s black dress
$69 with tag “silence + noise”</p>

<p>Sam’s ochre dress
$59 with tag “silence+noise”</p>

<p>all fabric is 95% rayon 5% spandex means flair up like fireworks, you should not wear it near open fire, but wash in washer cold like colors, iron low if needed
no tumble dry but lay flat air dry.
^it is awful hard fabric to sew with machines I saw in their video. I doubt student’s samples were properly hemmed or merrowed, I mean finished products aren’t properly trimmed nor lined for that low low price but made in USA slave sweatshop wherever they are produced but,
hey
let’s not rain on the parade!
congrats Pratt couturier(e)!!
hope they’d … cough cough sell. It is hard figure to pull it off is you aren’t sized like dress mannequin.
check this out. the most b.e.a.u.t.i.ee.f.u.l profile of Pratt life I ever seen.
take that, taxguy!!!

I am sorry Peter Cooper but I can’t find the original thread, so there.
we get bumped anyhow, yes?
besides it is somewhat locally oriented. six out of fourteen contestants are NYer or implants.
KAWS for the guest judge!! where are u drae?
I don’t think I can stomach any more of
“your work of art does not work for us” shaming ritual.
thou bit intrigued to see China Chow’s ever-top-this!-yet garbs and tried but couldn’t have helped Asian dominant gene-ed legs.

<p>20,500 plus views!
new school year!
Hurricane or not, new kids are at the dorm. all nerdy and bespectacled, all eng kids?
It’s like going down the memory lane. Panya’s strawberry shortcake. St Marks books.
Those pipe cleaner/cable tie street art is still there, if bit beaten by wear and tear.
Went to the 30 Cooper sq office to see if new viewbooks are out?
of course it isn’t ready yet.
in few days, said same grandma. I have seen her scratching NY lottery ticket couple times before at her desk.
If she’d ever win millions, she’d be gone from their front desk?
I shall miss her…</p>

<p>on the glass door was a poster for "alumni special shop one day only room 104"when/wherever it is. You can also shop online.
<a href=“This site is not configured”>This site is not configured;
NEW Cooper mom and dad T.
scroll down and you’ll see. S-XL $15, XXL $20.
Now you can show off your good parenting job done on producing
free tuition/chosen ones with pride. Let your neighbor wonder what the **** Cooper Union is. It’s their loss. heheheh</p>

<p>I heard the news on WNYC radio but can’t find the link.
St Mark’s Bookshop is struggling to stay in business
its landlord, Cooper Union refuses to lower the rent
people gotten together and patition-ing to save this cultural icon.
Today, Cooper and bookshop met together, no news yet of what is decided.
[St</a>. <p>I must admit, hundreds times I have been in the shop, all I did was browse. Because there are so many nice stuff to pick and read to kill time waiting for Cooper building or near by ramen joints to be opened.
I had no idea Cooper is the landlord (well, it’s dorms are upstairs, hello?)
it costs $20,000 a month to rent, Cooper won’t reduce $5000 being asked because they got to give full tuition to every students, who of course would browse at the store but buy at Strand or Amazon.
We all are guilty.
love the shop, never spent a dime.
sorry sorry.
WWPD?
what would peter do?
please give rent reduction, and let’s all spend some money there, or will be gone the way of CBGB.</p>

<p>bears…i love that store too but I think it is going. It does not fit with the changes that have gone on down there. All through my NYU years I was a browser (when it was on St. Marks) It would make me feel smart just to stand in the place. It will go to store heaven with Sounds Records and Unique and Antique boutique on B’wy. Astor Pl. Barbers will survive though. People can’t yet get their hair cut digitally.</p>

<p>While I was in school, I never bought anything from St. Marks Bookshop either. Interesting books, but as a student you could always find someplace cheaper to buy them. I did buy a ton of CDs from Sounds though (I loved the 88-cent bin). It’s sad to hear that they’re no longer there. I think I’ll miss Sounds and Kim’s Video much more than St. Mark’s Bookstore.</p>

<p>Vizzini - H and I just sorted out our record collection which was gathering mold in the garage.
At least 100 of those records had the Sounds sticker on them. Too bad because some of them are actually valuable and I think the sticker takes the value away. But it doesn’t take the value away in my heart. I used to save up change and when it got to be enough I would head over to the bins and intentionally choose records I never heard of for the thrill of it. My own form of gambling.</p>

<p>awwww youth
when is that 80s? village? awww</p>

<p>maybe you are right. I don’t wanna St Mark’s selling manga or domo-kun goods to fit in.

<p>cover design is basically the same, different photo. now blue accent instead of red two years in low, means next year would be blue again.</p>

<p>What’s new
41 Cooper square =shiny building is now officially rated LEED Platinum, the top dog of LEED and is the first academic building in NYC to achieve status. It was only
“aspired” to be certified last year. Now they’ve done it!</p>

Art 96% returned, 90% graduated (was 93, 94)</p>

<p>College Board, the evil empire SAT office have moved?

<p>Cracking down on “international” student
big-sh column is added. warning out loud
" International students are not eligible for Federal or State financial aid"

off campus resident $ 20.920 ( was 20325)</p>

Somewhere in here should be that grandma’s name who mans admissions front desk who scratch lotto tickets.
I am mildly reminded of digmedia’s thread about seeing kid’s name in the movie credit run.</p>

<p>That’s it for now.
overall, what I see is bumping on academics and new media-sh area.
maybe little swits or babyblue could fill us in.
would students get notify these changes, or it only stands for new students?
I don’t know, like, 3.0 is B and up. hard to keep that overall. or is it only me?</p>

<p>Good luck for all brave Cooper wannabees
Try to come to Openhouse if you could, so you will know what you are getting into.
make sure to spend tons of money in the city. tip plenty for cabbies and waitress, do not walk too slow or hog sidewalks. and the most of all
Don’t take anything personal, in and out of Cooper. Cooper and the NYC is the weird one, not you.</p>

<p>Thanks Bears!
I get new perspective from your poster!
BTW: What is the difference between video and film? They all making movie right?</p>

<p>I think you can ask babyblue and you will get better answer. these days differences are no longer its format, equipments, nor length. then what?
here is something I just read and donno why but totally agree with it.

<p>Planned Obsolescence
Relentlessly devoted to the antiquated medium of film, Tacita Dean chronicles misbegotten journeys, elderly relatives, and obscure moments in great artists’ lives</p>

<p>^ in here the artist says
“With film, you have an active relationship with time, with video, you’re much more passive.”</p>
