My friend from high school is also applying ED to Cornell. I sent my materials in a few days before him, but he received a call for an alumnus interview. Does this mean I should be expecting a call soon? And we are both apply to COE.
On a side note, is it possible to reject an interview if it has no weight in admissions? I really am not good at interviews.

Well, of course it is possible to reject an interview… but in my opinion that looks worse then doing poorly in the interview. Unless you say or do something ridiculous, it can only work in your favor. They will still file a report and note that you rejected the interview.

I had mine yesterday, and the guy told me about someone last year who refused an interview, and at the last minute was begging for one. It didn’t leave a very good impression on him. The only thing you could probably do wrong is be unresponsive when asked “Why do you want to go to Cornell?” (He said this happened last year with one applicant…)

Of course, these probably don’t count for much, but you never know.

ya well thats my problem as well. i’m not really sure how to answer “why cornell” properly.

Did you guys do business casual for the interview? As in dress shirt/pants with a tie? I’m thinking about going with a tie… too formal?

how did your interviewer contact you? do they call your house phone? i haven’t been contacted by anybody yet, i live in NY (a lot of kids apply from my area). how much longer do they set up interviews for/for how much longer can i expect a call/email?

My interviewer called my house phone.
I have to do my interview on the phone though due to my extremely packed schedule, I hope this doesn’t reflect poorly on me. :

I was contact via email and was offered either in person or over the phone. If you do not receive it within the week or so, chances are you won’t get one. I assume that the evaluation sheets need to be back by December 1 to have ANY impact on you.

do they interview every applicant? what if i applied to CALS?

An admissions person emailed me regarding my “Secondary School Report” and that it was not with my application. On Common Application, however, it says downloaded Nov. 1st.

Anyone know what to do?

^Speak with your guidance.

ISellHope, are you able to access you materials sent yet? Or did they just email you about the missing items?

Hmm, that’s not your fault. That’s the responsibility of whoever your counselor is to send it, either online if you assigned them and sent them an email, or by opting out online, and via paper. You need to talk to your counselor and find out if they sent it or not =

I checked with my counselor and they’ve assured me it’s sent. Since I sent my transcript by mail, could it be that they’re simply expecting the school form by mail as well?

The counselors use a similar application to the CommonApp called School Forms. On the site, it says that if you do not upload an electronic copy of your transcript, or if you are unable to, all of your forms must be submitted by mail.

On my app, since I was unable to do so, instead my counselor uploaded a form saying that the transcript had been mailed. I called the admission office during the week when I realized that you had to do either or for most schools… but the nice lady said that it was alright if you submitted everything besides the transcript by mail.

I suggest you just call the admission office if you can’t figure out what it is that you’re missing =

Ahh, that makes sense.
You are full of wisdom, lol.
I suppose they’ll be closed tomorrow for the holiday?

Did anyone receive a call from any Cornell Student Ambassadors? I received one like 2 hours ago from a sophomore ambassador. She mainly asked if I had any questions about the application process. Since I didn’t have any, we just chatted about Cornell in general. It was pretty cool.

That wouldn’t have any relation to the alumni interviews, right?

That’s 3 for AAP on CC so far.

When I went to the info session, I remember the admissions counselor discussed how Cornell admissions is based off the percentage of applications received from a particular region. For instance, if 20% of the applications were from California, Californians would make up 20% of the accepted students.

Does anyone know if that is just college specific, or university wide? For example, if 20% of the applications for the university as a whole were from California, but of that 20%, only 10% were for CAS, which statistic holds for the individual college admissions?

I would think that it would be college specific, but I’m not sure. Any clarifications?

Again, good luck everybody! December fifteenth couldn’t come sooner.

Hi all! I’m a fellow ED-er. Here are my stats:

Applying to Comm in CALS. I have two older sisters who are CALS graduates/students, one ED Nutrition Pre-Med and the other a Natural Resources. Not really a legacy, but it can help. The current senior is writing me a letter of recommendation.
