Status Update;

Early Decision Applicants: Early next week, we will contact early decision applicants who are missing application materials and we will give you time to submit the missing materials. We will also bring up the online application status system so that you can track your application materials. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to check back with us early next week.

Haha I got so excited just seeing that update this morning.

Ugh November, please end.

where did u guys see that update?
I didnt get any emails or anything

^ its on the site

yeah i was gonna say just found it lol

So I just got back from a very informative Cornell workshop on admissions with D and the admissions counselor there said that the majority of the ED decisions have been made and are just sitting waiting for the Dec 12th mail date because Cornell does not wait until the admission deadline to begin reviewing applications, they review them as they come and some decisions have been made since early October depending on when the applicant got all their documents in. He also stressed “FIT” quite a bit meaning that if someone is applying to a certain major they want to see that the activities they were involved in match up with their intended major, he also said that if someone is lets say planning to major in engineering, from and admissions stand point they are obviously more interested in their science and math scores as opposed to their english scores, there was one mother there whose son is interested in engineering and who received an 800 on his math SAT II and 800 on his physics SATII as was worried that he had only received a 690 on his English Lit SATII and that would have a negative effect on his application, the admission counselor said in that case the 690 wouldn’t matter much… Everyone laughed btw when she said his 690 was a “terrible” score, but she said he goes to Stuyvesant an ubber competitive High School in New York where alot of the senior class sends applications to Cornell so then we all sort of understood.Overall it was a great workshop…Good Luck to everyone!!

^ ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

the suspense is killing me!
i want to know whether i have to start doing all my applications for other schools, since their admissions deadlines are coming up!

does this mean if we’re interested in the subject and do well in the subject but have no ECs related to it it’s not counted as a good “fit”??? eg. maths

I’m glad you told us this. So we can worry more. all this waiting is annoying. urgh

Why can’t they just send out the decisions on a rolling basis!!!??

so are the decisions coming out on the 12th of december??? argggggg

How can they possibly have done most of our ED applications this early? That means they just glance at our GPA/Rank/SAT-ACT and makes the decision. I’m not saying that you are incorrect, but it does not make much sense. What if we have incoming (October) scores going in and they are better and shouldn’t they wait to consider our alumni evaluations also?

Wow… This is probably for students who submitted early September.

ilovefhf…I wouldnt go that far, what he said was that he wants to see whether through your essay or activities how you arrived at your decision to apply to whichever major you did and also that your academics coincide with that major. For example, there was a girl who was a intel finalist at the workshop and asked if submitting her intel work would give her an edge in the admissions process and he asked was her major of interest science related, she said no, he said in that case her being a intel finalist while great would not really in HER case be a major factor in an admission decision because they had many applicants who were intel finalist but who were applying as biochemistry majors for example where being an intel finalist was more relevant.

oh i see…but for maths its quite hard to find ecs really related to it so if i did volunteer work, speech, model un etc is that considered a totally bad fit?

Versi…he did say there were about 60 reviewers for the thousands of applications they receive ED as well as RD which boils down to about 15 minutes spent on each application and then another overall review with the entire committee once all applications have been decided on to double check their decisions. When u apply ED you apply with the understanding that what you already have, in terms of scores, GPA, letters of recommendation etc will be good enough to gain admission. As the counselor said ED applicants usually have excellent credentials and are top notch that is why they apply early, someone who thought they were borderline wouldn’t and probably shouldnt apply ED.

Yep Dec 12th is “D” day according to the counselor. Good luck! :-)

Sorry “Whoisthis”…I just wanted to share what we learned…I didnt mean to add to your stress level. I’m sure you will be fine, you guys are amazing! That’s why your applying to Cornell. :>0)

did the admissions guy say anything abt the no. of ppl applying this yr?
