Cornell 2014 ED-ers!

@arobins92
“Bio, when I visited they told us that overall, about 140 are accepted to AEM and the class is usually around 100 following decisions. I don’t what that means for early decision, but I’m pretty sure the class size is larger than 70.”
Maybe you’re right, I was quoting my tour guide.
However, ED acceptances are usually 1/3 of the incoming class, not acceptances, so 30-35 acceptances for AEM ED doesn’t seem far-fetched.

I guess yay at being the only Cornell Engi ED applicant from NY on CC? Shame that 21 people are applying Cornell Engi ED from my school this year, kind of screws up chances. 2008’s acceptances for Engi ED were 5/8 and 2009’s were 9/18. Hopefully they’ll take 10-11/21 this year =/

don’t worry about the alum interview…it’s only based on availability. they do write up a report, but it probably won’t make or break the decision.

@collegegirl
ILR applicant stats even though I’ve gone into full detail on past threads and I know that it’s the subjective stuff like essays, not this crap, that matters:
2170 (720 CR 670 M 780 W) SAT I, 700 SAT II Lit, don’t remember the math SAT II but it wasn’t bad (I don’t think the SAT IIs mean much anyway). My average is right in between 95 and 96 with all of the APs offered at my school minus Calc, Physics, and Bio (ewwwww) and my school isn’t ranking me because I moved blah blah blah. My ECs include public forum debate, a lot of political stuff (worked my butt off during the '08 election with a Pres campaign plus a local Congressional campaign and some statewide stuff and now I’m working at the local HQ for a US Senate candidate), co-founded a political activism club that we basically use to get kids to get their active citizenry on (yeah, boi), a TON of volunteer work (focus on Red Cross and Big Brothers but a wide range of activities), and a 35 hour a week job (working 3 school nights plus all weekend sucks and I’m definitely not working more than my work study award needs me to work in college) getting pwned at a local restaurant. I think I showed a great fit for ILR–the student that did my info session when I visited (it was right after alum weekend and there must not have been a lot of kids visiting because my freshman experience tour [I didn’t get to do the dorm tour until I came back to Ithaca for the ILR open house because they had alums staying there and were still cleaning or something…we picked a bad day to visit] was just me and two other kids from my town and the ILR info session was just me) told me that I had a good grasp of what ILR is all about, etc etc etc–in my essays, activities, and the way I articulated my high school experience (I was really happy with my 150 word activity description…lol) and I’m hoping that’s what gets me in even if my stats are lower than others. It’s late and I’m rambling. This is the ultimate TL;DR, but w/e.

What are your stats, Ms. Curious?

BTW, I’m surprised there aren’t more NYers in the ILR pool seeing as it’s a contract college and OMFGREDUCEDTUITION.

Well, look at how many NYers are applying for ALS and AEM.

I feel like ILR is trending towards an increasingly greater majority of students from out of NY state as it continues to grow in popularity and prestige. I for one am from WA and am in ILR and I find myslef surrouned by a ton of kids from across the country, its no longer a Long Island stronghold haha

@ Tech

Wow, that’s awesome! lol

Also! Interview tomorrow!

-sigh- why did she pick Black Friday?

I’m so nervous =X

@ civomorth, malan, & other ILR EDers
(malan-i can’t believe i’m posting my info on a public forum but i appreciate you doing it)

thanks for the info. blah i hope you guys are right about essays being a lot more important than the GPA & tests!

GPA UW-90.5 (AP’s include euro, u.s, psych, apes, calc ab, lit, stats)

SAT I:
CR-580 (■■■ i honestly don’t know what’s wrong with me when i do that section)
W-690
M-750

SAT II:
math I-680

commonapp essay-winning 1st place in the 2002 46th annual World Piano Competition-got the honor to perform at Carnegie Hall & the United Nations (focused more on how my outlook on life changed after the experience)

150 word activity essay-high school hiphop dance team-being co-captain & choreographer

high school activites/awards:
NHS, 1st place high school talent show, Art Award-Teacher’s Choice, latin-Magna Cum Laude award, Valhalla Literary Magazine-co-editor in chief (Gold Award for Best Magazine, Empire State Scholastic Press Association for 3 consecutive years), the Viking Chronicle-Student Life Editor, Model UN, Amnesty International, Diversity Club, pit orchestra (done 4 musicals), jazz band, jazz ensemble

outside activities:
English instructor of a company that teaches kids in China through webcam, Chinese teacher at Chinese School of Rochester, camp counselor-U of R Fun & Fitnesss Summer Camp, piano teacher, tutor-innercity schools (um these add up to about over 200 hours of community service)

if anything, i hope the essays and leadership stuff help make up for the GPA/tests :(

i really need to get going on other college apps…my school counselor & parents are ****ing me off & being too optimistic about me getting into ILR…seriously it’s such a long shot for me. what’s wrong with peopleee

@ nycollege

aw, you shouldn’t be ****ed off =\ They just have faith in you, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Happy Thanksgiving CC!

Today, I tried talking to my mom about other schools I want to apply to and she just responded with, “But I thought you were going to Cornell?!?!”

Also, will everyone that posted here agree to post their decision (regardless of positive or negative) on D-Day? I know it’s interesting looking through the ED threads of past years and it’d be nice to leave a nice record of our decisions for future applicants.

I didn’t tell my parents I applied early. I told them all of my decisions come in April/May…

So, if I don’t get in… I don’t have to go through the process of explaining to my parents what a failure I am…

Also, I like that idea malan =]

I think we should make a separate thread for decisions in a proper traditional CC format but not now tho
by the way, im from NJ, another one applying to COE
