My application went for review late March, but I got an email from Ian asking some questions about my transcript last Friday (apparently that’s when my file was actually under review.)
Ian is great - really quick to respond to email & very informative.
@nathanias Do you think it’d be a good idea at this point in the application process to send an e-mail about current projects for interest if they’re relevant to ILR? I only contacted Ian once with a few questions about my application and classes.
I got the call from Ian yesterday saying that i had been accepted (ILR). He said the acceptance letters are being sent out next week but i won’t believe i’m really accepted until I see the letter! Good luck to everyone else!
@02025568 Did he say only ILR are getting their decisoins thsi and next week?
@mechaas I would say it doesn’t hurt (as long as it’s not overly exhaustive), but keep in mind that the applications committee seems to be wrapping up decisions – I’ve heard second hand that ILR decisions are all supposed to be finalized by the 28th (I called the ILR admissions office and asked). So chances are, your application might have been already reviewed / will be reviewed soon.
However, that’s not to say that if you haven’t gotten a call yet, that means you’re rejected. Ian told me that he makes phone calls alphabetically by last name (my last name starts with a “C”). And I think the admissions committee meets once a week (on Tuesdays, I believe). So I believe next Tuesday will yield additional phone calls.
(caveat: this is solely speculation on my end, and deal with ILR only.)
If we haven’t heard anything back from Ian, is that a sign that they’re done making calls (aka reject)?
@jtranxferman I did not ask him about that but he did say letters would start to be sent out next week.
Also, when my parents called admissions last week they said that decisions continue to be sent out until June so i don’t think that next week is the cutoff
Still can’t access my pin on applyyourself
I wonder when CAS applicants will be getting decisions. Hopefully soon
@mechaas A few people who have spoken with admissions have said decisions are coming this week, so your decision has probably already been made unless your application was only completed very recently. At this point, I would say to sit tight and wait it out, unless the matter is extremely pressing.
As much as it sucks to admit, those of us who haven’t received any correspondence from admissions yet are probably in for bad news. I hope they let us know soon, because as much as it’s going to suck to be rejected, I feel twenty times worse every time my mom enthusiastically texts me asking if I heard anything.
Oh darn, I thought they were finishing up all decisions. I guess engineering probably won’t hear till mid May like last year.
@jackdub32 I know it sounds quite disingenuous coming from an accepted applicant - but no one really knows if the lack of communications from the admissions department equates to rejections. Past threads have multiple applicants receiving acceptances in early May – there’s no reason to believe that rejection is at hand.
Regardless, there isn’t much longer to wait. Relax, watch some Game of Thrones (or read the books!), and remember that the waiting game is almost over.
@nathanias I appreciate the kind words, and while I am usually not a big fan of mindless speculation, I think its pretty safe to say at this point that the writing is on the wall for some of us. It seems like many ILR applicants have been contacted by admissions for one reason or another, so I don’t think it’s exactly a sweeping conclusion to surmise that those of us who have received no correspondence whatsoever are likely bound for bad news from Cornell.
@jackdub32 I just got a call literally 30 minutes ago from Ian, right after my last post. He said that he’d like me to join ILR next fall. My last name starts with H.
@MOHighschooler Congrats! and for everyone else, don’t worry if you’re before H alphabetically, because I’m later than that in the alphabet and got a call yesterday. So the alphabetical thing is inaccurate
Thank you, @nathanias and @jackdub32! And, congratulations @MOHighschooler and @transfer2018410 ! Glad to hear the alphabetical statement might not be entirely correct.
Mine was completed on the 14th, but I was missing a transcript not my midterm report. I’m not too confident since I know I’m missing a course, but there’s always next year and other schools. Probably best to just concentrate on my upcoming exams and projects at this point.
Since I’m am international student, I doubt it that Ian would make a phinecall due to time difference etc. do acceptances come out in an online portal?
I wish there was an engineering Ian
It hurts when CAS still can’t get her pin
