Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@Homsar 277/635 words of my supplement was specifically about cornell

@Gatortristan Sounds like you have a pretty clear view as to what you’re going to say! I hear human eco is definitely very unique with its approach in studying mankind’s relationship with the environment, like how y’all view situations on more than a superficial level (psychological, historical, sociological, economical, etc.) so that one definitely suits those who want to go into medicine, politics, business, or applied anything, really.
I did my research on A&S (applying for physics) but honestly I didn’t specifically say (or find, really) too much that you couldn’t find at a different school so I’m curious as to how many other A&S applicants are in the same boat

@crossovercuber yikes that’s a much larger % than me, I’m at 171/650. I guess it really depends on your balance between interests and Cornell college of A&S, as well as your major, so i’d say anything between 25-45% gives adequate info to answer each part

@Homsar Try adding a specific program you wish to join or participate in. like a club associated with physics or a&s or maybe a graduate program they have that you may be interested in

Only problem is…i’m 93 words over the 500 word limit

@Gatortristan Did both honestly :))
Biophysics graduate research, various academic clubs/groups I’m interested in, I even put the clock tower in lol. Idk I might be overthinking this, best thing to do for now is step away from it

@Gatortristan Also the limit is now 650 so you’re good for now

@Homsar WAIT WHAT?!?!??! I saw this : https://admissions.cornell.edu/sites/admissions.cornell.edu/files/2015-16%20Essays%20and%20Questions.pdf
when did they change it?

@Gatortristan check common app, it says 650

yesssssss thanks for the info guys! @crossovercuber @Homsar

To all applicants:
On the common app, does answering yes to this mean we aren’t considered for normal admission or this just saying if they give us a GT we’re cool w it
I would like to be considered for First Year Spring Admission in January 2017.

@Gatortristan well I suppose you do have all day to get it in on Nov. 1st, but prepare for potential long delays. Always best to do it a few days ahead.

Everybody: the Common App essays is 650 maximum. The Cornell Supplemental Essay is 500 words. Common App will cut you off at 650, but don’t go over on the Cornell supplement. It shows you can’t follow directions.

@Gatortristan regarding the GT option: you better ask admissions office this. It’s a valid question. I think it means that if you do select it then they will consider you if you didn’t get admitted out right. But I’m not at all sure about it.

@Homsar

<<also to="" everyone="" else="" here:="" how="" much="" non-generic="" stuff="" did="" you="" say="" about="" cornell="" in="" your="" supplement?="" also="" of="" essay="" was="" itself?="" i="" tried="" finagle="" it="" as="" possible="" but="" they="" might="" see="" through="" me="">>

Generic won’t cut it in the Cornell essay. You need to do the research on the program/college you want to go to, classes, profs, research opportunities etc. You need to let them know that you belong there.

@TiggyB62 I was able to paste my 635 words into the cornell supplement

copy and paste straight from the directions: “Describe two or three of your current intellectual interests and why they are exciting to you. Why will Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences be the right environment in which to pursue your interests? (Please limit your response to 650 words.)”

Well elsewhere is says 500 word for cornell essay so it’s too bad they aren’t consistent.

I will call admissions and ask them both questions and get back to you all!

@crossovercuber This is all that mine says" How have your experiences influenced you to consider the College of Human Ecology and how will your choice of major(s) impact your goals and plans for the future?"
