The pdf with the 500 word limit has been taken down. The only word limit on the website states that the word limit is 650 words!!
I called admissions office today. They are saying 500 words still. They are aware of the 650 on the common app but said word count is 500 and not 650.
@penny47 Sure, Jan.
Ok I’m just going to submit a 500 word essay that I’ve written. At this point I don’t want to stress over this anymore.
I just submitted a 500 word essay anyways. I didn’t feel like making it longer would necessarily make it better.
Do I need my counselor and parent to sign the ED agreements before I submit?
@davidwaloo To submit the essay onto the app, no. To submit the app overall, yes.
I got a 29 ACT in September, but was applying to CALS. How badly does that score hurt my app? I retoke it in October as well.
@Geocach pretty much same situation but for HE. I don’t think it will hurt us if we did better on October
I’m not rushing my scores to them
@ArthurDent42 but it still gives me the option to go ahead and complete submit the application. Also, my teacher sent his rec but it doesnt say so on the common app. Oh and my mom doesn’t know how to sign the ED agreement. must she make an account? She got an email saying to sign the ED agreement but no link…
@davidwaloo Did you assign her to Cornell?
@davidwaloo Link for your mom to sign should’ve been in the email, try again. She doesn’t have to make an account. I can’t help you with the situation with your teacher; for me, when the teacher submitted his/her letter of rec, it showed up as “submitted” on the app.
How soon did you guys receive an email with Cornell ApplicationID after you submitted your Common App? thanks!
I haven’t gotten mine yet…
I got mine about 2 days after sending in my RD application so you definitely should get one soon
Just got it never mind.
Submitting my app today with financial aid stuff. After 5 months, I’m finally finished!! In less than 2 months I’ll know whether it was all worth it or not…
Is anyone using the UCA? It looks like the word limit for the supplemental essay is listed as 650 words everywhere but on the online UCA. It is even listed as 650 on the freshman application instructions for the UCA on Cornell’s website. Cornell admission said that the UCA would allow me to paste an essay over 500 words and that would be “fine”. The tone of the admissions person wasn’t friendly at all and left me wondering if I should cut down my word count. I have decided to after all to submit my 632 word essay. Should I attach an explanation or just blatantly ignore the directions?
632 words is fine don’t worry about it. The word limit is 650. @Sarah02155
