Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

Just submitted my application to College of Engineering!. However, I am worried about one thing. I took the Biology and Math 2 subject test both on October 3 and I requested both to be sent the moment they were available. However, only the Math 2 was sent and when I called collegeboard they gave me no answer or solution except that I have to spend additional money to send the Biology E, which is ridiculous because on SAT Scores – SAT Suite | College Board it stated that my biology E will be sent free of charge to Cornell. Since ED deadline is 11/1 I’m wondering if I need to rush the Biology subject test or if I should just send it normal which could take 1-2 weeks apparently. Any help would be appreciated!

@holi47 I was SUPPOSED to take the October 3rd 2015 SAT on, well, October 3rd 2015, like the rest of the country. As you may have heard on the news, my state of SC (which has been in the news waaaaaaaaay too much this year anyway) experienced tons of flooding on the weekend of October 3rd, and the test for me was delayed to October 17th. This delay has resulted in my test scores not being available until AFTER November 1st. Obviously since this is beyond my control, I expected Cornell to be okay with my scores being late, but just to be sure I emailed admissions. They told me as long as my scores are sent sometime around the deadline, maybe a week-ish after November 1st, that’d be fine. Therefore, I’d think they’d be okay with you sending your scores via snail mail and not necessarily rush ‘em, even if it means they arrive after the deadline, as long as you actually told the college board to “send scores” before November 1st. If you get in trouble, you can always cite the fact that you can’t control the mailing co.s’ speeds. Nonetheless, I’d email admissions if I were you and ask them, just to make sure.

@ArthurDent42 Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better. I will call admissions first thing in the morning tomorrow. After this incident though, I don’t really trust collegeboard very much to send the scores within a week. I feel like they will mess something up again but I will call Cornell to see whether or not they will accept the scores up to two weeks late.

@holi47 The college board is a stupid monopoly that makes to many inexcusable mistakes at our expense. Their history is filled with bs concerning their tests, from racism (Stand and Deliver) to not noticing obvious loop holes for cheating, they are an overpowered pile of crap.

@ArthurDent42 I know. It is so ridiculous when a college application which has a large effect on my life depends on one company and that company is too incompetent to perform to standards. I called collegeboard about their error and they admitted that it was a fault on their end but they would have to resend the score. I told them that I only had a few days left til my early decision deadline and the operator told me that they would agree to send my score free of charge, but if I wanted to rush the score, I would have to pay an additional $31 even this whole situation is due to their incompetency.

@holi47 What’s more annoying is the person on the phone doesn’t sound like they know anything. Moreover, the whole reason I took the October SAT is because I took the June SAT, which had printing error. The college board’s “fix” for this was to allow me to take the October SAT free of charge. BS. With the printing error, I got a 690 on math for getting 3 questions wrong (mind you they had to eliminate the affected math section). They claimed this score was accurate. Yeah sure, 3 questions wrong equals 110 effing points off. Imbeciles.

@ArthurDent42 Your statement is so accurate! I had to wait over an hour until my call was answered and the guy kept insisting I only ordered the score report for Math 2 and not Biology when my computer screen in front of me explicitly stated that both Math 2 and Biology scores were ordered and to be sent to my recipients. It is so infuriating, I just hope Cornell will understand our situations and allow us an adequate grace period for scores to arrive.

I just submitted my application and I feel dead on the inside.

Submitted mine today also. Worked on it for a good 9 months…

@Tryharding Dead inside? Why don’t you feel relieved, I do!!! Then again, people are different…

@ holi47, fwiw, every person I’ve heard who rushed scores had another screw up related to rushing them…which is why I think most schools don’t recommend doing that. Maybe call Cornell admissions to see what they recommend. Good luck.

Deciding if I should submit 3 letters of rec. I already submitted 2 but one of them is pretty generic. The 3rd one i would submit is kind of generic but it makes me sound a little better than the 1st one. Should I submit or just keep it as is

Don’t submit, every admissions officer i’ve met says not to submit any more than what is required, especially 3rd recs.

Well the poor little admissions officer looking at my app will be reading 3…oh bo ho, like you had to spend the last 5 months toiling away for something that may not have even been worth it…screw 'em…

I sent three recs…

@ArthurDent42 I feel relieved! But also nervous about the results haha but I’m glad its over

Did anyone attach a resume

I sent 3 recs…I mean technically you can submit 5 and I would not recommend doing that!

@c0rnell I did

My d submitted three teacher recs and one EC advisor rec and was accepted to Arts & Sciences.
