Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@KatieRose I know…I really would rather not give up this chance though, I’m definitely going to appeal to the FA office, if they lower the amount expected from us by half (I don’t think this is an absurd expectation, frankly their expectations in how much we can pay is the absurdity here based on the info we gave them, as far as I know), I might be able to go. Either there was an error somewhere, or preliminary financial aid isn’t accurate, or the “100% needs met in financial aid” stuff is absolute bullsh*t meant to up the name of the school.

@KatieRose I heard that Cornell actually accepts so many deferred kids

I also heard that Cornell accepted many deferred applicants through straight out acceptances, or GT/Spring admissions

@jf2580 all the stats I read online are pretty bleak for deferred students. Those stats are for all the ivies though so maybe that is more typical for the other ivies but Cornell is still my first choice I’m just trying to be realistic with the most likely outcome. For most of us being deferred is a glorified rejection but some of us will make it in just not a lot of us. Sorry to be such a downer.

@ArthurDent42 yeah I would talk to FA. I feel as if fafsa is also more detailed and accurate than the css but I also don’t know how much the estimated differs from the actual after they assess the fafsa

Well, I might be going to my back up school after all…my guts telling me Cornell is not gonna budge much…

@ArthurDent42 let me know what happens. The way it looks my parents could never pay and I don’t know how much student loans I can take…

@okie97 Yep. I’ve read all throughout CC of kids whose parents earn in the 100k range and only have to pay Cornell 12k. And yet we (my family) have less than that and are expected to pay 36k, 3 times as much!!! There must be a discrepancy somewhere!!!

Ah well, I guess the sunshine and rainbows of getting admitted to an Ivy League school has its “let’s face reality/real world” side to it…

Yay I got my Cornell financial aid!

@ArthurDent42 If you are a US national then you do not need to worry as Cornell is supposed to be Need Blind for them. Just a clarification to Cornell should be enough.
If you are an international, then what has happened with you is not uncommon. You can probably email them and see if there is any possibility of more aid.

@Tryharding i have sent em an email but nothing yet
This wait for Cornell FA is ridiculously annoying
I wish it came out with the decision.

Just to be clear, what you perceive as your needs can be different than what Cornell perceives. Your family maybe helping out with sick family member, sending money back home, or just have big house or expensive cars. Your family is not supposed be paying for tuition out of just current income, but from savings.

If you have questions about your FA, contact Cornell and also post on CC’s FA forum. There are many knowledgeable adults on that forum.
Just a bit of FYI, most top tier schools offer similar kind of FA and Cornell’s FA is fairly competitive. If Cornell is not affordable then you may need to look at schools that offer merit aids. I would advise anyone here who may try to get out of ED’s commitment via FA because he/she wants to try get into HYPS during RD. The Ivies and other schools probably share their ED list.

First time posting…
I am an international…Still awed i actually made it into Cornell.
Praying hard i get full financial aid. Without it definitely my case would be no better than a rejection. I applied CALS Environmental Engineering

did everyone who got a financial aid package get notified about it through email?

Guys,
Even I am an international student from India and I got admitted to Arts and Sciences ED at Cornell. Does anyone know when the financial aid decision will be released. its really important for me.

Does not receiving any emails regarding financial aid mean that you have not been given aid?

@Nsaraf98 no, they’ll let you know if they’re not going to give you anything

Anyone know why we have to email them if we’re going to enroll using a 529 plan? Emailed them yesterday since I was waiting for finaid to come out, but they’re not open on the weekends are they?

Does anyone know if there’s an official class of 2020 accepted page on Facebook?

How long (maximum) can it take for Cornell to send you the financial aid decision after the admission decision is released?
