Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

@ayylmao1 The Cornell website says mid-December
Does anyone know how long Cornell usually takes to send the login details?

@OMGDEVICE and anyone else with CSS questions: I am a parent and i know how this works. Do not rely on advice from other applicants who may or may not know the protocol. If you have questions, call FA office please.

As a rule:
CSS profile is mandatory for Cornell if you are applying for FA. This is a complicated form and you will need last year’s tax return to fill it out (2014). If your parent’s own a business or farm, then it gets even more complicated. Students generally need the assistance of parents when filling this form out. I handled all the FA forms for my daughter who is a freshman at Cornell. Once the CSS profile is filled out and submitted, Cornell will notify you if they require any other info.

Generally, when you send a tax return, you will need to send in all the supporting tax schedules (Form A, B, C, D etc) if this pertains to your tax situation. Additionally all W2s, 1099 forms (if applicable) K1 forms (if applicable) etc will also need to be sent.

You can submit FA forms via upload on the Cornell FA website http://finaid.cornell.edu/. Since most tax returns and supporting documents are lengthy, you can upload multiple files. Remember, once you uploaded a file, you still have to submit it. Don’t think just because it has been uploaded that it has been submitted to Cornell. This is a mistake that many students make.

If you are admitted, you still will need to submit your 2015 tax return to Cornell once completed. They will ask for this too. Also, you will need to complete the FAFSA as well.

FA is a complicated process, so ask the FA office if you need any assistance. They will be more than willing to help you.

@davidwaloo your statement is incorrect and you may have misunderstood the adcom. Cornell is need blind and they don’t have a hard and fast 50/50 rule.

And for all who are wondering: last year, Cornell’s ED decisions came out at 5pm eastern time on December 11th. A few days prior to the decision, they send you an email with a link to the decision website where you can view your decision letter. You will get a unique password for this. You do not check your decision on the application status portal. If admitted, you will also get a hard copy of the letter in the mail. In early April, you will get the official welcome packet (after the RD decisions). A week or so after the ED decision, you will get a financial aid award letter with your anticipated aid award. As I mentioned above, this can go up or down depending on the submission of the 2015 tax return, since you only submitted the 2014 taxes for ED.

edit: nvm LOL

@TiggyB62 Ohhhhhhh sorry for the false info guys!

Um im having a problem with this whole CSS and FAFSA stuff. I didnt plan on applying for any of it bc I definetly dont qualify for it, so why must I do it? Am I already too late?

@SquadGoals I am a male who applied to SHA. 31 act score and 3+ years of restaurant experience. what were your scores and such?

I was told that if you don’t qualify for it then there is no reason to fill it out.

Has anyone gotten their Applicant ID yet?

nope

okay thanks. i thought they had sent it out.

I got my ID 2 days after I submitted

The id to log into the website to check app status? I got it a day or two after I submitted my app. As for financial aid only CSS and tax forms must be in…you fill out FAFSA later.

awesome. yea, but dont you need an id to submit the financial info or not?

You can submit financial aid without an id

@litlhoward2468 male here applying to SHA as well

@Homsar Nah I don’t have research experience, yet…trying to get a position this summer…

Hey everyone who has an AppID…does your application status page show anything received besides the Common App?

Mine only shows the common app being received, even though I’ve sent everything in…of course this isn’t concerning because it’s only November 2nd but just wanted to ask…

@ArthurDent42 yeah, it took about 1-2 days for Cornell to receive everything else from me. It’s fine

meanwhile collegeboard scores are still MIA

All I need to submit are my October ACT scores which come out in week or two

@awakentrance Hopefully by tomorrow they will have all my stuff. When did you submit your app (what day)?

@ArthurDent42 mine shows common app, transcript, recommendations, act, and sat 2s but I submitted my app on wednesday
