Cornell Class of 2020 Early Decision Discussion

Another CoE applicant.

@JohnAhmed Great!

Which major?
I am leaning towards computer science.

ECE.

And another COE

Anyone get first quarter grade requests yet?

@NotAMathlete Heed the advice of @ArthurDent42. In terms of the waiting game, you just need to know that you put out the best application/essay possible and let the chips fall where they may. Don’t email admissions because you left off some things or forgot some awards. That seems desperate and adcoms really won’t care. Seriously, at this point it will not tip the scales either way. Cornell is a super hard school to get admitted to, and there is no rubric. If there were, then it would a very cut and dry process where you either have the right numbers/scores or you don’t. But since it’s holistic, many, many of you will have the right qualifications yet won’t get admitted. Why did “so and so” get in and “so and so” did not? No one knows the answer. Too bad there is not a crystal ball. For the next month though, just try to stay calm and don’t fret, although I know it’s easier said than done. Have your back up school applications ready to go. Keep a positive attitude and know that if it was meant to be then it was meant to be. If not, you will be successful wherever you go. Trust me on this.

Which Major?

@FZM777 Haha, omg sorry. I was (and am) super sleep deprived and totally read that wrong. :slight_smile:

@TiggyB62 Thanks so much for your words of advice! (You definitely made this senior a little less anxious haha) Yes, I am still quite nervous, but I do have plenty of other schools ready and already applied to a few other schools EA so I think I’ll try to take the advice and pretend I’m going to my back up school for now and try to forget about Cornell. I mean, I really hope I will get in and would love to go to the school, but as you said yourself, I’m sure I’ll be o.k. wherever I end up. :slight_smile:

hopeful ILR student right here

@Jubilantlearner no. it just means that there’s an alum near you who will interview you. it’s not an official interview

@Jubilantlearner no, a CAAN interview is informational only and it is provided by the alumni network of volunteers to in your area of the country. They answer any questions you may have about Cornell etc. These “interviews” do not count as an admission interview. The only schools that require official admissions interviews are Hotel and Art Architecture and Planning.

My daughter received an email last in year in mid November from a CAAN volunteer in our area and she tried to set up a meeting with him and he never got back to her. She phone him twice and emailed him back but to no avail. She got accepted ED. IMHO, this alum should have never volunteered for this if he couldn’t even get back the the applicant.

But if you are successful in setting this up, then by all means take advantage of it. It’s good to get an idea of what Cornell is like from alums, especially if they have recently graduated.

Just got asked for an interview. He said the admissions office told him to meet with me. He did my intended major so hopefully it’ll go well
