@ArthurDent42 They’ve had a whole summer to fix it, so we’ll see. I honestly lost faith in the college board a long time ago, which is why I decided to take the ACT
@Homsar The ACT, to me, is a failed attempt to attack the college board. I hate the college board alright, but the ACT is terrible. The science section is complete BS; I’ll take the SAT Subject Test in Physics, thanks. And the math section is based solely on fast you can get through the problems, not on your logical abilities. What I would like is for the SAT to alter only slightly in its format, but have the college board be punished for its failures, ie the June SAT printing error, losing multiple AP exams taken by kids at my school (yes it happened), the “Stand and Deliver” incident, etc. Every time they make a mistake, they write some long apology memo that means nothing and then offer you to retake the test in question. Hey, guess what, how about you not make assumptions about the sections you threw out in the June SAT, instead of making me retake your test? A 690 on the math section by only missing 3 problems?! Yeah you must have assumed I missed more questions on the two math sections you threw out over a dumb printing error. And oh boy to make up for it I get to take the test during the most stressful portion of my senior year…ass holes. Stupid monopoly.
I guess I’ll be on this thread for a long time…
Lol first time back on cc since getting into Cornell and decided to check the Cornell forum… Just wanna wish you all good luck during this application season!
Anyone else applying to the Hotel School ED?
Human Ecology ED all the way
@pipsteri I am!
Hey guys would you please evaluate my situation: CR 680, M 800. SAT2: Math2, Physics, Chemistry. 3800. AP: Calculus BC, Physics1, Statistics, Macro & Micro Economics. 55. I intend to learn about sociology and mathematics, so I cannot decide which college I should apply for. Arts&Science? ILR? I have some EC under sociology, and awards under mathematics.
Or should I ED Cornell kkkkkkk… it is too competitive I don’t know if I am eligible for it.
Heard that Human Ecology is one of the easiest colleges in Cornell to get in! Big five
I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a lot of pre-med students applying to Cornell Human Ecology ED…
All the colleges are equally competitive.
@ArthurDent42 Honestly, I thought the ACT was more of an actual test. I completely get where you’re coming from. some sections were bs but i felt like it was a much better assessment of our natural skills. No questions that consisted of pointless minutiae such as “How would author 1 react to the author of passage 2”? But more of understanding our assessment of cold literature. I kept getting 1920-2100s on the sat and i got a 35 on the act and i couldn’t be happier
Also, I found a study I think you might be interested in. It showed a direct correlation between family income and average sat score, leads me to question what the sat really tests…
Also Arts and Sciences for Physics major. Anyone else?
@EvEvonne Do some research on each of the schools to see what each of them are like. If you are interested in math and sociology, I would suggest CAS since you would be able to double major and take classes in both fields; whereas in a more specialized school like ILR/HumEc, you might not be able to take as many outside electives. From what I’ve seen, ILR also doesn’t seem to be very math-heavy (someone correct me if I am wrong)
If you’re just human ecology as a backdoor into CAS you’re likely to get denied admission. HumanEc is mostly about fit so if the adcoms sense that you’re just their to transfer they’re going to deny you admission probably.
S/O to my real human ec’s out there!!!lol
True. Human Ecology is very specialized and most of your extracurriculars have to MATCH/FIT the college well.
Just FYI everybody, ALL the colleges at Cornell are equally competitive in their own right. Each college is about the right “fit”. Usually backfires if you try to backdoor it in. Adcoms are quite astute. Make sure you are applying to the college that best fits you and make your essay shine. It is a very important part of your application.
You can look here: http://irp.dpb.cornell.edu/tableau_visual/admissions to get a visual idea of how each college admits. This is interactive so you can pick and choose the school and year to see admissions stats. Might be helpful if you haven’t seen this yet.
Honestly I feel like Human Ecology admissions says its equally difficult to get into, but it seems pretty clear that getting into Human Ecology is a lot easier to get into- i dont know
Meh…
Everyone can yak about adcoms can detect if you are trying back door (applying to easier school) to get into Cornell, but the truth is they really can’t if you could write convincing enough essay and have the right ECs. CAS and CoE are two hardest schools to get into. Most athletes end up at AEM for ED, but Hotel school can be close enough substitute for AEM (business school for hospitality), and many hotellies end up in finance and consulting anyway. Unlike other schools (Columbia), it is not hard to transfer among different schools within Cornell.
