Cornell ED Class of 2021 Discussion Thread

@2021Fr Finally someone who was accepted!! Major? International? Financial Aid?

Any Indian here who has won the Tata Scholarship?

@sargamprakash I think the award results will come out later along with the financial aid package…
Considering Cornell turned need aware for international students from this year onwards, I am not too sure what to expect.
I need a substantial amount of aid!

btw, where are you from in India

What is the acceptance rate in RD for those who are deferred in the ED round? Is it easier to get in for RD relative to other applicants if you were deferred? also, congrats to those who were accepted!

@Bobby2956 I think @holdencaufield007 can give us a better insight when she receives her aid package since she is Indian too asking for lots of FA like us.

I’m from Hyderabad, Telangana

@emao836 It depends. Of course, applying ED demonstrates a certain level of commitment on your part and this has certain implications for a college in terms of retention and financial need; however, the deferral’s more negative connotation is that despite being competitive for the university there is still something you don’t have which is keeping them from accepting you on the spot.

You’ll have to be competitive with the RD pool if you want a “straight acceptance” rather than a guaranteed transfer. All I can say is that at this point you should try and chill - forget that Cornell exists. Keep your performance up and if you win any major awards make sure you update Cornell! At this point you’ve done about all you can!

For those who were rejected today, my friend - a Cornell CAS grad - would like to say this: “Ivies are not so much about intelligence as much as they are about what parents have made their children do and the opportunities they have bought.”

Although this isn’t wholly true and most certainly isn’t meant to downplay the achievements of those of you who were accepted (congrats!), his point - and mine - is that intelligence and success are not synonymous with an education at Cornell - or any school for that matter. These things are not mutually exclusive, I promise. :^)

If anyone has questions feel free to DM me! I wish you all the very, very best!

@sargamprakash major in architecture, international student from south america and no financial aid

@holdencaulfield007 hey…congrats on your acceptance!!
Which college are you going too and where are you from in India?
Any idea about the FA package and whether we are guaranteed atleast some amount of aid?

@sargamprakash I lived in Secundrabad for 3 yrs…my dad’s in the army therefore we keep shifting!

Anyone deferred from Human Ec? I was wondering if we should start another thread for deferred people so we can discuss the next steps

@vcq7890 I was deferred from Human Ec

@Bobby2956 I applied to CoE and I’m from Delhi! I hope they give me fin aid because it’ll be next to impossible for me to attend otherwise. They did ask for more financial docs, did they ask you too?

@holdencaufield007 thats insane…I have applied to COE too!..care to meet up in Delhi on the 23rd?..I am there during that time…yaa i need aid desperately too and would not be able to attend otherwise. Umm…was this before the descision?..I was asked for my passport, and some income tax returns

@Bobby2956 I’d love to meet, but i’d have my preboards around that time. Still, i’ll drop you a pm if I can find a way. Even I was asked for my parents’ itr docs and my passport! Lets hope we both get the Tata scholarship!!!

@lulu0207 probably the UCs (especially Davis for animal science) and OSU

anyone get into AEM?

@holdencaufield007 got the TATA scholarship…full ride man!!

@Bobby2956 Wow thats the dream! :open_mouth: Congratulations!!

@Bobby2956 CONGRATULATIONS!!! How’d you get notified? Hope I get a decent fin aid package too

@mbc99 @camcan My daughter got deferred at ILR. My husband is a Cornell/ILR alum who did CAAAN interviews for years. Daughter is one of the tippy top students at her school, captain of the Cheer Team, captain of the STUNT team which won New York City Public School Athletic League Championship, plus she got individual awards. She volunteered at Hillary Campaign HQ every Sunday since January, Hebrew School assistant teacher, tons of APs with 5s (one 4 in Euro). As far as fit, she took AP Microeconomics, APUSH, AP Macroeconomics. Killer common app essay and supplemental essays showing love of Cornell. Great letters of recommendation, awesome alumni interview. Very good though not great SAT, 98/100 average, 760 SAT II math, 730 SAT U.S. History.

She has wanted to go to Cornell since middle school. She has already done 6 other applications, and will work on more shortly. But is there anything she can do now to get into ILR RD?

@notamathlete So if 40% of deferred students at your high school got guaranteed transfers . . . . did ANY of the deferred students get outright admission to Cornell RD?
