Cornell Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

CALS non TO no descision yet

@IndirectProofs

Please do not feel bad. I was rejected as a non-TO CAS applicant today as well. I am 19, so not exactly non-trad, but I struggled a lot in life with an atypical background, and have been getting similar admissions results, rejection after rejection, so I understand how you and others on this thread may feel.

We have to compete with people with perfect ACT/SAT scores who went to feeder schools, with legacy or parents who have planned their kid’s ECs since middle/high school. The process is catered towards those who do not have a great deal of hardship in their lives, so inherently, many of us who are seeking second chances are disadvantaged from the get-go.

I am low-income, LGBT, come from one of the most poor, underfunded high schools in my state. Like you, I did not have a great secondary educstion. My school had some of the worst test scores and outcomes in the whole region. I grew up in a poverty-stricken, rural area, and have always had to fight for my education. Grew up on my grandparent’s farm, parents have been absent, one deceased, after a battle with substance abuse and drunk driving.

I have worked since I was 16/17, moved up from a fast food worker as a high schooler to now working in IT, and an internship at a National Lab in a few weeks. I have won a AP Scholar Award, highest level state Scholastic Awards, Leadership awards, President’s List, won a couple of science fairs in hs for independent research, Honors college, president and founder of first LGBT club, so much volunteering in high school as a STEM club member, student council in hs and college, been to hackathons and programming competitions even at ivies, done AI/ML research in college, presented that research to a huge top 5 tech company, and contributed to a paper that’s been submitted for publication.

I got a 32 on the ACT which was unheard of in my area, I have a cummulative 3.76 from a 4 year, an upward trend from my terrible sub 3.5 UW GPA in high school. I wrote essays about my hardships in childhood and how they motivated me to learn, to move forward, and to be more curious, and innovative. I had academic reasons for transferring (Major/specializations I wanted aren’t offered, I want to do AI and my school has no courses for upper level CS)

I have been rejected from every college that I applied to so far, Cornell, Brown, CMU, Harvard, etc, and it is dissapointing. I will most likely be headed to a community college in the fall due to large costs of attending a 4 year. This process is in no way indicative of your work ethic, accomplishments, or intellectual capabilities. Everyone in this thread will succeed no matter if they attend Ivies or not. You all have the intellectual curiosity to blossom and thrive at any institution.

@betaclimber
srry i was studying for a chem test lol
not sure if it matters anymore but mine came in at 10:02. All the best to ya

Good luck on the waitlist at haverford. Penn State still has availability tho.

non-TO accepted to SHA! 3.76 gpa transferred from northeastern. Super excited!

@Thing87 Good to hear a non-TO acceptance!!!

Thanks! I’m planning on applying to PSU after my last final, which is today! I was rejected my senior year when applying to Haverford. I’ve had a strong high school and freshman year, and so, I’m optimistic that I get off the waitlist!!

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Please knock off the bickering and insults. I had to delete several posts. Warnings will be issued if this continues.

Has anyone gotten in today with “initiated” on their financial aid transcript?

Accepted to SHA!
Non-TO, changed to ordered on Friday
current school: high tier UC

@rish68 that’s great! Let me ask you this did you apply to Cornell before? Someone said if you did not apply previously to Cornell you would not see ‘ordered‘ on your application.

@PBMAX1 yea I applied as a freshman applicant last year

where any non-TO CAS applicants accepted?

Ok that makes sense- congrats!

Rejected, CAS.

3.76 GPA at a 4 year in the honors college. 32 ACT. Had an academic reason for transferring, program and courses that I wanted were not offered at my school. Wrote about hardship and growing up on a farm in a very poor community and family with no parents, how struggles throughout my life instilled intellectual curiosity within me and how I have grown from it.

Multiple Awards and ECs: AP Scholar with Honor, Honors program, Leadership Award, Intl. Philanthropy conference, multiple hackathons, Science fair awards from HS for independent research, president and founder of LGBT club, student council in HS and college, worked since I was 16 to help support me and my family so multiple jobs, now working in IT and upcoming research at a national lab, AI/ML research presented to top 5 HUGE tech company, paper submitted for publication, Leadership position in language club.

I’ve been rejected everywhere that I applied so far. Headed to community college in the fall I guess, can’t afford my 4 year anymore. I guess I’ll be seeing you all next year, when I apply to CALS.

I’m attending GWU right now. I wouldn’t have applied to any of these schools if I didn’t believe I was qualified! I’m not too worried about PSU. I was accepted last time I applied.

@stringtheories your stats are so impressive.

@stringtheories Which state do you live in?

@stringtheories even if I was rejected to make room for you that would make sense. I enjoyed your stats that’s awesome.
