Cornell Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@IndirectProofs Have you looked into RPI? It’s a highly rated school, albeit not ivy-league status, and they love to admit people with math skills:) It’s much smaller (about 7,000 students). My daughter loved the feel of it, and honestly she applied to Cornell mostly because I wanted her too… turns out she knew best:)

@betaclimber Thanks. My email came in @ 7:02 PST.

But to be honest, the company I work for is a math company and my coworkers go to harvard, princeton, MIT, and stanford, cornell. So that’s why I wanted to try since we do the same job and it’s really hard to get into.

@Thorsmom I have not looked into it, but I will do that.

Can someone explain why people think they know other people’s stories and can judge them on some online forum?? “This is why they were denied.” This is a college chat and last I checked you are not the admissions committee… Maybe you’re picking on other people because you’re insecure about your own decision. Can we stop this and get back to the normal stuff

@IndirectProofs do you have a GED?

There is so much shade being thrown on this thread!!

@CollegeTPAL I have one but it is from a very long time ago and it was basically right when I left middle school I took it. So it was before I learned math or any writing. The scores are low since it is from 2001.

I think I just need both a GED retake and an SAT.

Oh, and I did practice a lot for the SAT. Did very low at reading and got every problem right in math. So should I take it? I mean I chose not to because I thought it might do more harm than good.

Yeah but that doesn’t show that you’re smart or that you’re hard-working. Just because it was published doesn’t make it true either- you have to convince the admissions committee of this. I see you keep applying to the same places year after year. Look, nobody is trying to beat you up, just let you know these are competitive schools and at some point you need to move on with your life. What is your GPA, SAT/ACT, and are you in a 4 year or CC? If you are unwilling to answer you probably are underqualified. If you did not submit the ACT/SAT they are probably not even going to consider your application, unless you came from a war zone and lost your family. There are some instances they may let it go, but normally they will assume (with no scores) you can’t compete with their students and coursework.

@IndirectProofs my son was rejected by Cornell last week, he has perfect GPA, 35 ACT, lots of ECs, strong rec letters, and he is a Cornell legacy (grandpa graduated from Cornell Civil Engineering); I don’t remember how many reject letters he received since his freshman application, so he already ran out of tears, LOL. Please do not be discouraged, a reject from one particular school does not remove your outstanding accomplishments and your never give up spirit! I wish you best of luck on your waitlisted top college and other colleges not announced yet (remember to send the waitlisted college a letter of continued interest and update with them your recent achievements, if you have not yet). Cheers.

Seriously? All I can say is that if you read my application you would know what I’m talking about. And BTW I only applied to ONE of the schools I applied to last year and I do go to CC. So I’m not sure what your point is. My GPA is a 4.0 at my last two CC I went to.

What do you mean about moving on with my life??? That’s exactly what I have been doing this year, like I said I got over 25 solutions accepted to different math journals; some international. This is what I love to do.

I’m not going to argue anymore. I’m already heartbroken and if people on this thread thing I’m cocky, or don’t like me oh well.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Might I remind members of the forum rules: “Our forum is expected to be a friendly and welcoming place.”

Let’s support each other instead of throwing shade at one another. The snark ends now. I have deleted several posts.

Additionally, this site is not a debate society. Nobody has seen anyone else’s complete application package, so speculation about why one did or did not get accepted is pointless and needs to be avoided.

@zhengfangchen I just now got your message, I am saving it. Thank you! Your perspective helps me so much! I appreciate that a lot.

My son applied to Dyson. Non TO. Still hasn’t heard anything.

@IndirectProofs I just wanted to let you know that I read the story that you posted and found it to be very inspirational. As someone with a BS in Math who share’s your love for proofs (though life has taken me in a different direction), I just wanted to commend you for not giving up and for working to achieve your goals. At the end of the day, college helps to prepare you for life and a career. It looks like your experiences have already prepared you for the “life” part and if you continue to study and increase your knowledge, with or without a “prestigious” degree, you will succeed in achieving your goals.

Does anyone know when the decisions for the transfer applicants to CoE will come out? Thx

@Firstofmany Wow I don’t even know what to say. I am happy that you read my story. I ended up editing that comment just because it’s a forum but if anyone does want to read it PM me. I think that’s so neat that you have a BS in math and love proofs! I completely agree with what you said about with or without a prestigious degree. I’ve already made a ton of goals for this year as far as advancing my knowledge and studying. Thank you so much! It is nice to meet you.

I still haven’t received my decision yet! Nerve rackin’!
