S was rejected at Cornell & Harvard but that was expected, only two rejections out of 20+ colleges applied.
He has deposited at University of Michigan 30 minutes from home anyway.
Good luck to everyone!

I understand the chance thing but his background is the same as my other son who got in three years ago. His test scores and class rank are the same if not better in some areas. His ECs were probably better. Community service was different but similar in magnitude. How does one get in and one not even get on the waitlist.
I’m really weary about the transfer option, I think I may do summer courses.
@NotPeeCee I’ve only noticed difference is being OOS non legacy and non minority. I’m willing for contrary observations.
@JigglyPuffs123 - if I were you I would take the January admission. A lot of people never get off the WL.
There is a Transfer option thread if you like to have that discussion. It is easier to have consolidate discussions in one thread.
He will love EVERYTHING about U-M.
@oldfort I don’t think i got it; i just got a choice of being considered, which I said yes to…
@ jigglypuffs123, he is already in
@UmaSridhar ,
She seems as a very strong applicant. Was she accepted in other schools?
Did you ask for financial aid? Country of origin? My DD with similar stats is considering Cornell for fall 2019.
Your answer will be a great help for other international applicants.
@sastronaut ,
Congrats for your acceptance!!!
Are you international? If yes could you please post stats, other acceptances, financial aid, country etc?
It will be great help for other International applicants!
@harrya, she has around 8 acceptance as of now but nothing at ivy league status. She applied engineering in many and that seems to be very competiitve. We are from inida and no we did not ask for any financial aid. We just received a rejection from Berkeley(COC) too. She might end up in UT austin for pure science or UCSD / UW for engineering as of now. BTW she has decent ECS and if ranked she will be top in her school. Very competitive and popular CBSE school. Lots of learning for me, pls ping me if you need any help, all the very best for your DD.
I’m so lucky CALS Cornell was my only out of state acceptance and I only applied to a handfull of schools, mostly Ivies
SAT: 1510
ACT: 34
GPA: unweighted 3.8 weighted 5.3
Hooks: lots of agriscience research! (I was offered a research scholarship), homeschooled, will graduate with 80+ college credits from dual enrollment and AP
My niece Is claiming she got into Cornell. She had several Cs and little extracurricular. How is that even possible? Yes, SAT was probably around 1450, but something seems very wrong. She claims portal wasn’t working yesterday for her and got an email letter instead Does this make any sense at all?
@harrya I am a US resident, but I’m going to school in Bangladesh currently.

Still waiting for Stanford
SAT breakdown: 1430; Math - 780, EBRW - 650, Essay - 18/24 (7/6/5)
SAT IIs: Chemistry - 800, Math II - 760, Physics - 710
British Curriculum board exams:

As for financial aid, a few of my documents were missing, so, my financial aid is still under consideration.
@NotPeeCee Did your first son apply ED? ED gives the applicant their only statistical advantage to get in but involves committing to a school
My D got waitlisted, she had near perfect grades and test scores with several impressive ECs with national wins and accomplishments and leadership position in school. Had a summer internship related to her field of study. Her LORs and essays were impressive, showed her interest in what she plans to do with an engineering degree, but still did not make it. We are asians, she goes to a large public school in an affluent neighborhood with very competitive kids in the top 10%.
These admissions are so random, very hard to pinpoint why someone with lower stats and lesser accomplishments from a similar background and ethnicity makes it. In the end, we have to remember that these decisions are not based off any formula but made by human beings, so there will always be discrepancies that are hard to comprehend and the term holistic review masks it all.
Hey guys, I was waitlisted for college of engineering… Did any of you who filled out the waitlist form get an email confirmation that your opt-in was confirmed?
@Twicemom yeah it does seem strange but there are many factors such as passion, and curriculum rigor, that are hard to quantify.
this is an interesting site that lets you track admissions over time…
in 2017 overall women in engineering were accepted at a 23% rate
in 2017 over all men in engineering were accepted at a 9% rate
both very competitive
to all of you accepted- can any of you view financial aid yet? I can only access the to-do list button on the portal
@az103 it should have been emailed to you
