Thanks @vexed2death. I guess I have more time to prepare myself emotionally for rejection lol. Do you know if items on my financial aid to do list will prevent them from reviewing my application?
@sam577 No, I believe that is reviewed by another committee. That is why if applicants submitted their financial aid information late, their admissions decisions is not always accompanied with a financial aid offer.
Additionally, do not worry too much about the decision especially at this point in time. Best of luck!
@vexed2death Hey there-
Thanks for all your insight so far, I have been following the thread and we all appreciate your help. I am also applying as a transfer student for the spring semester, but am currently in my fifth semester as an undergraduate junior. Do you think this makes any significant difference? I would love to be a Cornell student although it means spending an additional semester as an undergraduate.
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks and Good Luck!!
Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone called the admissions office and asked when they plan on releasing acceptances? Thank you
I tried to reach out to them but waiting time was too long. I’m expecting they’ll start releasing by the end of the month and all the way up until Christmas.
@hopetotransfer1 No problem, I am glad I was able to help someone.
Let me start by saying that I am in the same boat as you so I understand the stress you are feeling right now. I actually got the opportunity to extensively discuss this with one of the associate directors of admissions for the school that I am applying to. This person basically said that it is rare for transfer applicants to be so far along in their undergraduate career. Thus, applicants in this situation must understand that if they transfer, they have to stay at Cornell for four Semesters and only a maximum of 60 units will transfer from their previous institution.
Thus, I am sure it would not hurt for any applicant to mention their willingness to transfer despite the fact that they would have to spend more time at Cornell in their essays. In fact, someone from a previous thread mentioned that they stated this in their essay and speculated that they were accepted at least partially because of that.
However, for the most part there is are no apparent repercussions for applying when you are far along in your college career just based off the conversation I had. I am speculating here, but I imagine that if you did not show your passion for your subject, your fit for Cornell, and/or any research you did about the institution, they will assume that after learning about the aforementioned policy you will choose not to transfer which will hurt their yield. Thus, it can potentially hurt you in that scenario. Nevertheless, if you showed your passion, fit, etc. they will hopefully assume that you either know about their policy or will still transfer to Cornell despite learning that you would have to stay there an extra Semester.
Hence, the way I got over this is by thinking about my application as a big picture and not focusing on hopefully small blemishes such as this. If you did your best in your application then that is the most important thing. Best of luck!!!
@InfoSci2 Unfortunately, none of us know any concrete details. If you read my previous posts, I explained why this year the wait maybe even longer than in previous years. I just hope it is out before Christmas.
@Congrats Don’t bother calling them, they will not give any specifics at this point in time. They may tell you after Thanksgiving, early December, etc. but I believe they don’t really know themselves and their responses may change with time. Read previous threads to see examples of this.
I am glad you accepted the inevitability of the fact that results may not come out soon. Lowering your expectations will help ease your stress as the wait drags on. I speak from experience in that regard.
Do you guys really think we won’t hear until December? I just found out last night that I got in to one of my safety schools (Stony Brook) and they want a decision by 12/1.
If it’s true that Cornell won’t get back to us until mid December, I’m really going to be in a bind…UGH
tbh I think most of us should get our decisions by the end of thanksgiving break but idk.
I applied for Political Science at CAS. They emailed me today that the Selection Committee wants to see the Syllabi of the political science classes I took at my current college so they can sent it to the department and approve the credits.
Did anyone else get and email like that? Does it mean that they’re considering me for acceptance?
@Sam577 I didn’t get an email like that. When did you send in your app? I sent mine October 2nd
Btw I applied for bio and society at CAS.
I submitted on Oct 15, but it makes no difference since they did not look at any applictations untill then.
I applied as a junior so they need to approve my prerequisite courses to be sure I can start as a PolSci major.
@sam577 they usually don’t approve credits until you’ve been accepted so maybe that’s a good sign. It could also be because of your major. I know someone who applied to humec last year and didn’t get that email
@shopclasshero I doubt that you (or anyone else for that matter) will receive a decision by December 1st given previous threads. I would not make any hasty decisions now (just in case a miracle happens). However, I would eventually ask your safety school to extend the deadline to reply given the fact that you are still waiting on Cornell. If they refuse to extend the deadline (which they certainly might) you should prepare to respond to your safety school without knowing Cornell’s decision. If you look on previous threads, many applicants were forced to do this on 12/1 in previous years. This is very inconvenient, however, planning ahead to make this potentially life-changing decision will greatly relieve your stress and anxiety as opposed to making the decision in a week or a day.
@hilareolas I would not bet on decisions being out so soon. Again, the expectation (especially this year) should be before Christmas.
I believe CAS does not usually review your transferable coursework until after you have received an acceptance letter (since there are so many applicants), so do not worry about the fact that they have not requested to review your transferable coursework. Best of luck!!
@Sam577 They are considering all of us for acceptance ?. All jokes aside, yes, it is likely due to your major. I believe ILR has the same procedure. Basically, they do not want you to come to Cornell with 0 requirements complete (especially if your major has a lot of and/or specific requirements) if none of those classes you took transfer over. This is because Cornell has some fairly strict requirements for transfer credits, thus, this could potentially be a deal breaker. I would not worry about this too much as this is something you have no control over. I hope all goes well, best of luck!!
For anyone who submitted their mid-term reports this week or plans to: do you guys also keep getting emails about the Nov 20th deadline and reminder to submit everything by then? I’m just not sure whether to go by this one or tomorrow’s deadline…
I followed the 15th as the deadline.
Is the status of your application supposed to change from “submitted” to something like “reviewed” after an admissions officer has read your application?
Is anyone applying for ILR?
called the admissions office and they confirmed that decisions will roll out mid November; but they wouldn’t confirm that they’d come out next week as they did not have that information
Hey guys I’m a non-GT SHA applicant. I don’t know if this means anything but I came across the “New Students” website and I entered my ApplicantID and got in?? I could see the “To Do Lists” which all shows “incomplete” for me. Does this mean anything? I was wondering if this happens for every applicant as well.
Here’s the link: https://todo.newstudents.cornell.edu/spring-2020/transfer/todolist/
Then press Sign In and enter your Applicant ID. Let me know if you guys can sign in as well!
