Cornell University Waitlist Class of 2022

LOL getting a transfer option is better than rejected. You still have the opportunity to graduate with an ivy league degree

Yes @lenasharb, CAS for physics. And it wasn’t a guaranteed transfer: “If, after a successful year or two elsewhere, you continue to believe that Cornell may be the right school for you, we hope you will consider applying to transfer here. Cornell enrolls between 600-700 transfer students each year, and you will find information for transfer applicants on our website…”
So that’s a nope. Maybe for grad school, but he’s decided to go into his undergrad 100% for the school he’s starting at.

I GOT A FALL 2019 TRANSFER OPTION FOR CALS omg!!!

I also got a Guaranteed Transfer Option from CALS for Fall 2019 yesterday afternoon!

@stuystuystuy did your email actually say “guaranteed” or just “transfer option”?

It just says transfer option. On the website it says the offer is guranteed as long as we have a 3.0+ gpa and a b+ in courses. We also have to take courses required for our major.

Hi CC Friends, So nice that more of you waiting got a TO offer. Congratulations.

I want to share some information that you may find helpful as you are registering for your classes at your initial schools. My D received the TO for Human Ec, and her major is Human Development. There is a chart from Cornell with specific required courses and also some recommended courses for her to take during the 2 semesters that she is at Pitt. (She is not sure she is going to transfer to Cornell, but she’s keeping this option open.). She has a 5 on the AP Bio exam. One of her requirements is an Intro. to Bio and lab. She had a phone apt. with a Cornell advisor who told her that since she has a 5, that it’s up to her whether or not she wants to take the Intro. to Bio or the second level Bio in the sequence. Additionally, another requirement is Intro. to Psychology. She feels she will have a 4 or a 5 when she gets her results in July. Pitt accepts a 4 or 5 for placement into a 2nd level Psych class. So she is registered for Developmental Psych right now. The advisor from Cornell said this is fine as well as Adolescent or Child Development if she chooses. Interestingly, at Pitt, she would have to take Developmental Psych before she could take Child Development or Adolescent Development. Those 2 classes are recommended options by Cornell. The advisor was ok with the Developmental Psych, though, instead of the required Intro. to Psych.

I am telling you all this so that you are very careful with your course selections! Please reach out and make a phone apt. with the appropriate advisor at Cornell so that you do not assume incorrectly that you cannot capitalize on your AP credit/advanced placement. I was very surprised that the Cornell advisor was totally fine with the plan my girl had mapped out already with her Pitt advisor. I really thought Cornell would still want her to take the required classes listed on their chart, but they were not rigid at all. At least not in her major with Human Ec. Another college at Cornell may be very different, so run your questions by them.

The advisor also gave her some general advice about her TO application and what they’d be looking for. General common sense stuff. You will all be getting involved and volunteering and having relevant experiences, etc.

I would love to know if any of you get invited to any TO programming/orientation for this summer. Especially the Human Ec people. If they have such a program, I would love to lock it into our summer plans.

Best of luck, and congrats again.

Daughter just got Transfer Option letter - “Cornell and would like to extend to you a Transfer Option (TO) to join the ********major at CALS as a sophomore in the fall of 2019 after completing one year of study at another college or university. Next week we will be reaching out again to see if you’d like to pursue the CALS Transfer Option.”

@Winky1 thank you for all the information regarding courses! Very helpful. But I thought that the transfer option was guranteed as long as we have a 3.0 gpa and take the required courses? Did they tell your daughter that they look at extracurriculars too? If so, I don’t see how the transfer option is different from applying as a regular transfer :frowning:

@MahdiaChowdhury , they told her and also explain on the link they sent her that it’s not guaranteed, but that if she has a min. of a 3.3 (human ec), and preferably a 3.5 for pre-health majors AND completes the required coursework with a B+ or better, that the TOs then are at the top of the transfer pack. I really don’t think they are out to eliminate TOs who have met the requirements.

There is no application fee, no additional recommendations needed. But there is a simple essay. And they do want you to still be doing appropriate activities/volunteering/research for your interests/major. Anyone does that, though. Just be conscious of it.

https://admissions.cals.cornell.edu/transfer-option. This link is on the bottom of the TO letter. I don’t see anything about extra curriculars? Check out the link. It looks like it’s a fairly simple process. Also, I read a bunch of posts on other sites that said you’re in as long as you meet the requirements: 3.00 gpa from accredited college where you’re a full time student, complete application by March, remain in good academic and disciplinary standing, and take relevant courses.

@winningticket7 i think @Winky1 is telling of her phone appt with the Cornell advisor that may have mentioned the ECs.

Each school must be different. Similar, but different.

Did anyone else not get a reply from CAS yet?

yeah idk why i didn’t get a response back yet

Whoever didn’t get a response from CAS: please check your PROMOTIONS tab and your SPAM folder…mine was in there…@lenasharb, @thisisitman

@grundeis Hey, I checked spam and junk but nothing was there. I also checked the portal they sent on 3/28 but the waitlist message still pops up. Di

@grundeis Did your portal change?

No my portal is the exact same…I received the email on June 7th at 1:30 pm.

Click on “all mail” gmail and search “Cornell” @lenasharb

Ah I don’t have Gmail so I rarely get anything that accidentally gets sent to spam @grundeis
