Cornellians for Obama

AP930- Why are you making comments like that? Is is simply the truth. You’re really going to tell me race isn’t a huge factor in this election? Someone very close to me is a registered Democrat and is voting McCain because he/she is uncomfortable with Obama and believes has connections with Arabs. Call it ignorance if you want, but I’ll have you know she was raised in the 40’s and went through all the scares (end of WWII, Cuba, Cold War with Soviets, Vietnam, Korean, Iran, desert storm), so society has really done a number on her mind. So for her and thousands of other Americans, it does come down to race. Do you honestly think all the hard feelings of the Civil War have diminished in the South? Do you really think that Northerners don’t aren’t going to hesitate before flicking that switch and pulling the lever for the potential first African-American executive? Please… Let’s be honest, shall we? This is America. Unfortunately, the issues matter to a few. The appearance matters to most.

No, don’t jinx it. Throughout the whole race, McCain had the lead. Although in the back of my mind I hoped my candidate would win, I did not really believe it for a second, I didn’t dare to set my hopes so high. I remember when he was nominated over Hillary, I heard McCain supporters jeer over how easy it would be for their nominee to triumph over “that black muslim terrorist”, and while I was appalled by those comments, I knew he wouldn’t win…but now he’s in the lead. I don’t know how it happened (well, I kind of do, it was a Palin-sucky economy combo) but I refuse to believe for a second he will win because then I would be setting myself up for a huge disappointment Nov 4th.

mccain should have picked hillary as his vp…

or at least ridge…

palin was the best choice he could have made, imo

^ha, I completely agree :P

yeah I know, I feel like Palin scared a lot of moderates into voting for obama…my friend is a diehard hillary supporter who was planning on voting for mccain, turned to obama after good ole’ palin was elected. great decision on mccain’s part, one of the best he’s made in the last 72 yrs.

I assume s.dot is referring to me. I don’t regret any statement that I’ve made in this thread although my memory is a little fuzzy regarding exacttly what I stated.

I also love the insinuation or blatant accusation that I’m a racist. I enjoy speaking about race, no doubt and I am against affirmative action and diversity training and shizit like that. I see race and I notice that Obama is black, of course. But, unlike you, I don’t view a person as simply a member of a collective (“Obama is the first black president, so screw ya’ll crackas!”). Rather, I view each person as an individual (“Obama is a socialist liberal who wants to ignite class warfare”)

Although I must admit, Obama has seemed more moderate since he won the nomination, even aligning himself witrh Warren Buffet in economic issues. TRhis is a tried and true ploy by all politicians though to covet the moderates and independents.

I also don’t really care that the president is black or catholic or asian. I only ask that he has good policies and doesn’t cowtow to his “group” (like Kennedy not taking orders from the Pope). God you’re such an annoying ■■■■■, go away.

Oh yea and I was all ready to vote for McCain until he picked Palin. What an ignorant, horrible choice! NOw I’m not voting.

I actually think it is the other way around. Buffet aligned himself with the junior senator from Illinois.

I didn’t say McCain fans would decide not to vote after Palin was picked, I said that a lot of Independents decided to turn to obama after palin was chosen, because they felt the republicans had taken a turn for the worse.

As liberal as Obama is, he’s not a socialist. I go to NYU and there’s a lot of Socialists who stand around washington square (campus) all day (they’re not students) who have big presentation boards and hand out flyers and pamphlets and all that, and none of them support Obama, he’s way too conservative for their liking. I’ve never met a socialist who supports obama.

Well, if it isn’t the person who’s screen name says it all. Is it me or does that faux, hyper-intellectual bull**** you were talking about throughout the course of the thread not make you look like a complete idiot right now (dont worry dont no, there were plenty others on this thread just like you, you just tried to present yourself as so much more knowledgeable. How do you spell BACKFIRED)?? It’s not who barks loudest, it’s who barks last dontno. I should’ve known, you dont-no these things.

“Oh yea and I was all ready to vote for McCain until he picked Palin. What an ignorant, horrible choice! NOw I’m not voting.”

That’s very patriotic of you…

wait, I thought that user was being sarcastic, that’s what I was referring to in my comment. unless he/she was serious? highly doubt it, but if so, that’s kind of stupid.

@ s.dot

I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. CXan you pelase quote specific things I said?

You haven’t said anything dontno, you haven’t been the least bit obnoxious or offensive in this thread. You love everyone equally and you have nothing but respect and adoration for black people. Your disdain towards Barack Obama is justified, so much so that you won’t vote this election. All that and then some, didn’t you graduate summa cum laude? You are truly a gentleman and a scholar, everything that Americans should aspire to be.

On another note, I wonder why you recently started a different thread seeking a link to an article referring to black people as “angry.” You aren’t seeking the article cause you believe it echos your own thoughts, are you dontno? Nah, not you…

@ s.dot:

Instead of making broad generalizations regarding my supposed racism, please provide at least 2-3 quotes from this thread buttressing your contention. I’d be glad to reconsider if my statements did indeed cross a line. I have done so in other forums and would be willing to do the same in this one as well.

But until you provide “evidence”, please refrain from implying mny bias against Obama is race-based. If Obama was white, I still would never vote for the most liberal Senator (according to voting record) in Congress.

I don’t love races. I love people. You need to udnerstand the distinction.

Star- I believe he was being serious. Many Republicans are taking this course. I call it voter’s suicide. If they are unhappy with their candidate and refuse to vote for the other major party, they either vote for Nader or don’t vote at all. Of course, I believe a vote for Nader is better than not voting at all. those who do not vote and preach democracy have forgotten the basic principle of democracy…

Wow you’re write, he/she was being serious. It was such a ridiculous statement I took it for sarcasm and responded to it that way. Whoops. I agree with the last line of your post btw, although I doubt most Republicans are voting Nadar.

*right. sorry, just had to fix that because i’m ocd like that.

Hi everyone. You knew I’d bump this one cause I’m not letting the morons who hijacked this thread with their b/s escape in light of Barack about to become THEIR president. “Who yo daddy now haters?”

I’m not hiding ■■■■■. I’ve known Obama was going to win since McCain made the worst VP in the history of the US. I hope I’m completely wrong about Obama and that he’s a great Prez. I still don’t believe any of my apprehension is unfounded either even that transpires.

And you completely ignored my request:
